Grew up in a rather poor town, went to a not great public school but had a lot of friends. His parents immigrated from Cuba to try to have a better life for their kids in the states. While their living situation wasn’t ideal, they’re better off than they were in their neighborhood in Cuba. His parents are super sweet and always supported him no matter what. Even when they discovered his power, being able to bend the will of others by simply touching them, they didn’t reject him and instead focused on teaching him morals. He never used his ability in a terrible way, but growing up, he did have his fun with it. Though he always limited himself. One day, though, when he was about 18 and fresh out of high school, his older sister was struggling. She lost her job because her car broke down and she had to take public transport, making her consistently late. No car, no job, and she was going to move back in with their parents soon. He wanted to help her, so he decided he’d use his power to steal money from a bank. Just enough to get her back on her feet, maybe a little more to help his parents. I won’t go into detail, but it went wrong, there were casualties, and police arrived. His parents begged for him not to be arrested, so he was admitted to an insurance for dangerous people. Those who are not well mentally or those with powers. (Powers are not very common in this world and most people have very mediocre powers, but there are still a few people who show they may be a threat and are put in institutions like the one he is in)
