so they were born into a poor household and their mother was actually in a cult of "wizards" and was grooming him to be sacrificed in exchange for her gaining immortality, when he turned twenty and the stars had aligned exactly twice since his birth he was to be killed and she thought it would be a baller move to stab out his eyes to do it so the day rolls around and she manages to stab out one of their eyes but before she can kill him for realz she get struck by lightning nine times in rapid succession so shes been fully toasted and our poor friend here is confused and slowly and painfully bleeding out they manage to stumble to a nearby cottage where he gets a doctor called on him the doctor mightve been able to save his eye but this is a long long time ago and the dude just figured out that the medicine witch who was using aloe vera on burn victims shouldnt have been hanged so quickly so he just fucks it up more to the point where the whole thing has to come out anyways fast foreward past the boring "boo hoo i nearly died" stuff and onto nath meeting their first spouse her name is christianna and they are the leader of a womens lib revolution group needless to say the strict theocracy of iplea shoots her in the street for shits and giggles decidedly traumatized enough by his homeland our atom bomb baby decides to make it big in the big city yes you heard me right our boy is making his way to brass city the capitol of scarburry there he meet the a pair of precocious immigrants from the northeastern nation of kasi who are traveling north to expand the country and get some of that sweet sweet angel infested land for their very own this is where nath meets his second and final spouse his name is vincent and they build a pretty decent life together at least until they notice that thirty years had gone by and nath still looked like his plucky teenage self vincent dies at age sixty two leaving nath in the care of the cabin they both built vincents brother greg dies soon after at the age of fifty nine leaving nath completely alone again at this point he starts learning to read in common as before he could only read in uboni and the strange wizard cypher his mother insisted on teaching him they quickly amass nearly encyclopedic knowledge on a range of topics from literature to philosophy and politics to mathematics and chemistry they decide to find like minded individuals and find many friends in the scholars and artists of the era even becoming an icon of sorts among academics and becoming a primary resorce for up and coming scholars to turn to with this fame among scholars he also finds his in crowd with the bourgeois becoming a family friend of dynastic and powerful people even courting a few most notably the duchess minette of chevine and enoch hammersmith of the hammersmith liquor and brandy empire both would leave him to move on to hotter manpieces but the claim to fame still exists after that he spent another century floating from campus to campus giving lectures and intervierws and becoming more and more depressed and isolated in the small cabin that was becoming much of a witches den in that it was piled with all sorts of junk and rabbits* the final nail in his coffin of isolation was a woman named terradenna svasall she seemed friendly enough and nath was in a low enough place that they two started courting but things turned sour as she emotionally manipulated and extorted money and sex from him only finally leaving after robbing his house and locking him in a closet though this is rarely alluded to and not at all relevant.
from here there's six years of manic isolation and paranoia, then another five of safety and boredom before the beginning of our story.
