History
Arvalen is the child of a Drow that fled the horrors of the Underdark, and a Shadar-kai who forsook their duties to the queen of the Shadowfell. As a result, he is a halfbreed known in forbidden tomes as an "Abyssal Elf". These creatures possess dark magics that course through their very blood, and are capable of terrible destruction. Arvalen, raised in Osova, drank deep of necromantic knowledge and graduated with the highest honors in spellcraft as well as honors in biology studies. His descent into madness is well-known in modern Osova, and he serves as an example of what every Osovan necromancer wishes NOT to be. This dark mage is a sociopath who sees little difference between the living and the dead, who finds no moral problem with killing a person and using their body as long as their soul is sent off to the afterlife first. The elf has killed many in pursuit of his advanced studies, and taken the vital energy of his victims to add to his own already long lifespan. The Osovan elders believe that at this point, Arvalen may well live for hundreds of thousands of years, and that killing him would take immense magical strength. Even further still, his experiments in the creation of new types of undead and other servitors has even lead to the mage butchering demons and devils, using their infernal parts and those of more mundane people and creatures to spin entirely new beings to serve and toil for The Great Work. So offensive were his creations and his actions that he had been sealed below the city, hopefully for eternity. In the confusion of the Thay Deception, however, it seems someone managed to release him...
And he remembers all too well who put him in that prison: Carunas.
