Pretty simple. Grew up influenced by royalty and the feverish idea of power like all young people, and strove to help her king as much as she could. She recognized she couldn't get close to the king himself, but her grandparents worked close with another detective named Metaphorical Whembrooke, who was Neophyte's twin brother. In order to honor the stories told about this great detective, Emerlin picked up detective work.
