Overview
Dr. Adam Dayton
Doctor, Sir, Mister
Male He/him
38
Looks
12 stone
6'0
Black, starting to go grey.
Its kept flat against his head most days under a cowl and mask, but if given the proper care its naturally a bit wavy and clings to his temples. He doesn't ever bother to style it, even outside of work, so it's a tad wild.
He never gets more than a bit of a shadow, hes very meticulous about shaving even if no one ever see's. Adam hates, and I mean HATES the feeling of stubble on himself.
Grey Blue
Human
Extremely pale white, often doesn't get enough sunlight. Almost a sickly pale color, he hates it, but has often been described as having 'the pallor of a corpse' by those who've actually seen him.
Thin, but wears bulky clothes.
He has dimples, very subtle, but there. As well as a scar on his arm right above the elbow.
His face is always covered, but he has a round head, round eyes, and thin, stern lips. Lots of frown lines around his eyes and brow.
Nature
He's learned to duck his head a bit when talking, as he's a tad taller than most of his patients.
A soft, patient voice to soothe others he's talking too, but with clinical detachedness. Adam also has a small habit of getting stuck in a frown, he's not angry or scowling, he just forgot to relax his facial muscles.
Adam wants to be a good doctor, to save lives and to heal those hurting. In recent years hes lost a bit of his passion, but he's a doctor at heart. Seeing villages decimated by plague and disease takes a dark burden on him, but makes that drive to help unkillable.
He comes off as very uncaring, but hes deeply hurt by every patient he loses, no matter what. It makes him very reserved and closed off. He feels the need to help everyone, no matter what or who or when. The Dr. part of him know loosing people is natural, the man breaks every time.
While he will treat anyone he comes across, Adam has a dislike of politicians. He refuses to take bribes and he's not a fan of the monarchy or those involved with them. He would never deprive someone in need of medical help of course, but.. He would only come if called upon specifically to serve.
Adam is a skilled doctor, having trained in the medical field since he was a boy. He's very good at dealing with children and adults, but not much in between. Outside of work he has the social grace of a flounder, and his few friends are still also work associates.
He is adept at recognizing and caring for plants, specifically those used in medical practices, but his favorite is ferns.
He likes to sketch plants and animals, he finds it soothing. He enjoys reading as well as writing. Adam also loves to watch birds, as he often travels he makes it a little game to see how many different kinds of birds he can spot, what kind, and what songs they sing.
Dr. Adam Dayton is a good man. Well-mannered, kind, and extremely caring. The persona he displays is always professional and clinical.
He's developing arthritis in his hands, which concerns him greatly. And as he's gotten older his knee and back have begun to pain him, though he's not even yet middle aged.
Social
Christianity
He's not a fan of the current monarch, but will do no more than grumble. After all, the crown is still the crown.
He's a doctor. A plague doctor.
Vibrant green
Broth/Meat Stews
A small drawing done of him by a little girl, it's crude and barely better than a stick figure, but it is easily his most valuable treasure.
Flintlock pistols
Cats
Some of his co-workers send him letters with bits about life in between work and he counts this as friendship.
History
October 7
He received the best education he could at the closest thing to a medical school. It was expensive, but a wealthy baron funded his education.
Adam Dayton is from a minor upper-middle class family. His father pushed him to becoming a doctor to support the family as a well paying job. Yet, almost on the heels of Adam finishing his training the plague struck the country. He's been traveling ever since.
Family
He feeds strays.
Adam is almost a carbon copy of his father, same stern voice and face, similar mannerisms, and the determined drive. It's obvious where he gets it. No siblings as his mother couldn't conceive after giving birth to him. She's a distant, but kind woman.
He's not a priest, so no vow of celibacy, but he just doesn't think it would be fair to any wife to leave her so often. He'd be able to be home maybe a fortnight every so often then leave. He never got married because he didn't want that fate for some poor woman.
Notes
He takes an apprentice eventually. A young girl who pesters him, even going so far as to follow him on the road until he agrees to train her. While forbidden for women to be doctors, he gets her a set of smaller plague doctor robes to hide the fact that she's a girl. She essentially becomes a daughter to him.
Outfit
The same, usual outfit. He just suffers. :'))
In winter, especially with heavy snow, he'll bundle up underneath the robes, sometimes wearing a modified set that was fur lined, giving Adam the cute look of a bird with baby fluff still on it.
He wears the classic 'plague doctor' robes we know today. With the ivory mask with glass eye-holes. As well as the flowers on the inside of the end of the hooked beak, in accordance with the (now) outdated theory. A black mantlelet clasps around his shoulders and the robes underneath. He likes to keep tinctures and salves in vials around his waist and pouches of thing on strings. Black gloves and shoes as well as the stiff brim boater hat.
He wears a cross around his neck, mostly to ease the fears of the more superstitious towns he visits.
