My Goal with Cordelia was to create someone passionate and hard headed. Each character I create has a piece of my soul in them, and while they are all different from me, they often show traits that come from me. For Cordelia, she shares the same birthday month, and is equally loving of the ocean. Both of us are Pisces and tend to be blunt when the situation calls for it, however Cordelia is blunt nearly always and much more motivated to achieve her goals. I wish I could steal some of her passion. My choice to make her a siren was a tricky decision. I knew the races the main characters would be, but knowing that, only partially helped me create the characters themselves. Cordelia was tricky, because as I was creating her, giving her passion, mood swings, and a temper to represent the ocean, I realized that such a passionate and blunt character would have opinions on EVERYTHING. Because of that I realized this character would know a lot about climate change and environmental related topics and would have strong opinions on them. I couldn't make her uncaring about the nature of being a siren. To be a siren, means to target living creatures as food. I don't think Cordelia would be ok with or indifferent to that. But I realized she didn't have to be, and that's how one of Cordelia's biggest character struggles came to be. After all she is a siren. She can't deny her own instincts as they are a part of what she is. The struggle between what she is and who she is, will be a major feature in her personal journey.
