Penniless but only because she doesn't need anything--fixing her hunger by feeding on people and sheltering in unused shacks or sheds.

Ljudmila -- a woman whose entire town Aniela had massacred when she was only a child. She had taken pity on her and ordered her via hypnosis to go in the opposite of the town where they were heading. When Aniela had seen Ljudmila happy and excited to go back to her village, flakes of Aniela's conscience rose up, telling her: no. So she sent her in the other way, sparing her life.
However. They meet again when she returns to Croatia. It was another small town that Aniela had chosen to blend herself in, but needed to develop trust with others in it in order to do so. Ljudmila, living there, did everything in her power to alert others of what Aniela was as well to try to expose her. But, nobody believed her except superstitious old people who weren't taken very seriously.
At the end, with the help of a friend, Aniela gets doused in gasoline, the area around as well, with Ljudmila across from her, holding up a lit lighter. However, Ljudmila had been doused in it as well, meaning if she threw it on the ground, they'd both burn alive. However, Ljudmila was willing to do so even if it meant she'd die. She drove Aniela out following her with the lighter, which has led to Aniela viewing her as a formidable opponent.
[Potential detail: At some point, Aniela turns Ljudmila, so if people grew suspicious, one of them would be suspected or they'd both go down together.]
