History
18th of Obscūrus. 12/18.
Decent but not high.
Narcissus grew up in a small town named Mera in Iaciela. It was a relatively tough upbringing, his family barely getting by most of the time on what little they could grow, beasts around only made things worse. Despite this Narcissus was happy, helping on the farm with his mother was enjoyable, and the hunting trips with his father were some of the best times.
It wasn't always easy to forget the world around them and stay relatively joyful, when the beasts started to grow closer to their town and the guards never came to help their little town began dwindling down. Watching your neighbors die to disease, have to be killed by their loved ones, or worse turn them as well and have to be put to rest by other townsfolk possibly infecting even more was harsh. Narcissus himself, not even an adult yet, even had to mercy kill a few of his friends, people he had grown up with, people he cared for.
No one from the city ever came to help their little town, they had to deal with it on their own, suffer and be wiped out all because the city folk didn't wanna risk losing anyone. The only help they ever received was from a hunter passing by, they didn't need to be asked, they didn't want anything in return, they helped because they wanted to. They saved people because they knew it was the right thing to do. Narcissus will never forget that hunter that helped their little town during the worst of it, when there were barely any left, how he saved his mother. That's when his admiration and desire to do the same began.
When he was thirteen his family would move to Prīscus, sponsored by some rich family he still knows near nothing about after the matriarch fell in love with some of his mother's art. A last effort to make money to afford any scrap of food somehow winning them a spot in one of the nicest cities, an odd stroke of luck.
Nice as it was living in the city felt wrong, felt restrictive. The stares of the citizens bore into his back more than he'd like, always felt like they were looking down on them simply for not having been born into the city. It's not as if Mera was far outside it's walls, yet they acted like he had lived in the woods his entire life. It was exhausting to go about his days like that, he'd end up spending more time outside the walls than in. Gathering, hunting, hell just spending time outside to be away from the glares that shot into his back.
Fifteen he'd finally leave. He was still a kid, he knew it'd be hard to get anywhere, but he was tired of living like he was lesser than everyone around him simply because he was born outside city walls. Once he had his things, and a good amount of crowns stolen from the matriarch's witless son, he left heading back to Mera.
Part of him wasn't surprised when he arrived and the little town was abandoned but it still broke his heart to see his home in such a state. He stayed there for a few days, collecting a few things they had to leave behind when they picked up and left, reminiscing on bittersweet memories.
When more beasts began to draw closer to the town again he wasn't too bothered, knowing that staying quiet and out of sight would keep him safe, but seeing his closest friend- now nothing more than a bloodied mindless beast with rage in it's bloodshot eyes, disturbed him. He froze, his blood like ice, a pit forming in his stomach, as he fumbled back the creak of the floor alerted the beast. Narcissus isn't sure how he lived, he only remembers alerting the beast and blacking out. When he came to his hands were bloodied and the lifeless remains of what once was his best friend lied crumpled on the floor. He didn't stick around long after that, when the sun rose he left heading to Vetrela.
It's stupid to him now looking back at it, but he doesn't regret it. That foolish runaway and sad night ended up steeling him, settled him enough to undertake the journey to Vetrela and come out relatively unscathed.
When he made it to the hunters he had expected to have to argue for a spot among them, to show them proof of what he could do and his resolve, that he wasn't just a child with big ambitions but they accepted him with open arms. Their leader the same hunter he had seen defend his little town years ago.
'Course they wouldn't just let him out into the open to go hunt beasts, he was too young to have had any actual training, doing that would be a death sentence- or at least so he was told, despite his journey all on his own to get to the place. After a few months of training he'd finally argued enough to get the hunters to let up and let him hunt for real.
His first hunt was a test, he knew that from the start but he was determined to show them he was more than ready to deal with anything placed in front of him. His talent and prowess with the bow shining brightly as he shot down the beasts without one ever noticing that the others were dying around them. His clear talent and quiet skills would net him some room to breath on his own, and even better some room to explore and take up the hunt. Elias didn't want to leave the country on his own just yet but he'd let him roam and hunt all he wanted in the area.
His sixteenth nameday is when the hunter would let him do as he pleased, reluctantly naming a full-fledged hunter. Ever since Narcissus has been roaming Edrines hunting, he tends to stick in the little villages and towns more often than the other hunters knowing what it's like to be on your own out there but when the area's cleared he moves on. He never forgets to visit his family in Prīscus, though he might hate the city and the glares have never went away he misses them enough to ignore the heavy air.
