Vinea’s mother, being one of the few people who saw The Creature, believed she was spared by it, and became devoutly obsessed with it. She joined a cult of other survivors like her, who believed that the creature was a sign of reckoning, and it would take the sinful ones with it.
After an incident where Vinea fell and broke her neck, her mother believed her to be dead, but a couple of days later Vinea came back from her grave simply covered in dirt, without any injury. This event was what woke up the STAR fragment inside of Vinea.
Being a small child, she had no impulse control yet, so she began to bite at herself, due to her cannibalistic urges blossoming. Vinea’s mother took this as a sign of the divine, that since the creature took one of her kids, the remaining kid had become holy, and pure.
Vinea was a kind child. She tried to be friends with everyone, she listened to her mother, and even took care of some of the other kids in the cult. It was only natural for her to believe that her mother wanted only the best for her when she offered her kid to become the cult’s purger of earthly sins.
Vinea spent years being the receptacle of the cult’s darkest desires, from mutilation to abuse to rape. Growing with the mindset that she was a holy receptacle for impurities helped her bear the burden, so even if at the start she was apprehensive, she learned to shut off her mind, and simply accept it.
When Lazarus freed her from the cult, he was the first one to ever offer her a gentle hand. She dutifully follows Lazarus till the present day, believing him to be the epitome of kindness.

In her past life, she was in a cult that used her as a forced volunteer for all kinds of torture, both physical and psychological. This cult believed that, by creating a large amount of grief and despair in a single person, they could gain the favor of the one they called "The Abyssal One".
