Thom may not have any superpowers, but he's incredibly book-smart (if very much not street-smart) and has a lot of STEM-related prowess. He's good with his hands, a trait that helps him out as a mechanic, and always willing to help those in need. Selfless to a fault, a trait which Mitch sometimes struggles to understand, especially once the time loop starts.
Thom struggles to value himself outside of what he can do to help others, and often will describe his brilliant ideas and then brush them off with "no idea if it's any good, though" or something similar. He has a tendency to get lost in his work, but he's far from all work, and he and Mitch spend most of their free time causing minor chaos among their peers and messing around, although they draw a line at causing time-consuming problems on purpose. They're best friends until the end, and, as Thom soon finds out, beyond the end-Mitch is willing to risk anything to keep Thom from the untimely death he has while confronting a League official over sabotage.
While Thom and Mitch are both initially unsure about admitting their feelings for each other, they do in some of the loops, and in the final time loop they do as well, and wind up getting married.
Although Thom is biologically an only child, his parents end up adopting Jennifer Wolffe , a teenage girl raised in a cult and subjected to human experimentation, who is a few years his junior when she first arrives. Thom is fiercely protective of Jenn, seeing her as his own flesh and blood even though they aren't related, and he'd do anything to keep her safe.
