Within his own clan, Varris is a social butterfly. He is well liked by many and enjoys all sorts of company. He would prefer to keep that within the clan though and isn't fond of outsiders. Varis sees very little point in planning for the future and prefers to take life as it comes to him. He looks for opportunities in the moment and seizes them as he can. He tends to make decisions based on his gut rather than thought out plans, which can land him in trouble from time to time. Varis tries to keep a positive outlook on situations when he can, and pretends to do so even when he can't.

Varis's father was the Keeper of clan Sabrae before he was born. But he had an affair with a hunter from another clan, which ended in humans killing both. His father was killed outright while his mother survived long enough to give birth. Ashalle took Varis in and raised him. Though he showed an affinity for magic like his father. There were already several others in line to be the next keeper, so Varis became a hunter instead. Making fast friends with Tamlen, the two were soon to be inseparable.
