Born on Earth, he lived a fairly normal life with his sister Raven until he was 12, when he and Raven went exploring in a supposedly haunted forest that happened to be a direct link to the forest used by Dekah to contain the afterlife. He got lost in the entrance, where the powerful ghost Cyprus took over his body and thrashed it for about a year. Raven teamed up with a spirit named Isthet to save Jay, but Cyprus was already attached to his soul. He then got cyborg implants at Murdock labs before finding Icarus and escaping with him
