Notes

Notes

The Dragon King once accepted humans, leaving them alone. Yet man has his own ways. The dragons were seen as a threat to their superiority, so it was best thought to eliminate them. The day Rigeulus grew to despise humans with a passion, happened long ago in his younger years.
The humans managed to infiltrate the Dragon Caves. They killed any dragon in sight, be it a chick, to even an elder. The King's mate was killed, protecting his only two heirs; Princess Farah and Prince Fuego.
Since then, he vowed that he will have his vengeance upon all of mankind. No longer did he care for them. To Rigeulus, they were but a dishonorable species.

The Dragon King had to lower his head, just to be on the same level. His great eye burning, the ground shaking slightly as he moved.

"Human words mean little to me anymore. They have been nothing but lies. If you see something you want, you will get it, even if it means stabbing one of your own in the back. Surprised you haven't killed each other off."

King Rigeulus wrapped his wing tighter around his daughter, his growl causing the earth to quake, "Man is truly a race to be pitied."

Dragons lining the ledges muttered amongst themselves, most of which nodded in agreement with the king's words. They continued to watch, waiting like vultures.

"There had been a time I respected man, having offered aid when it was needed. Elders of old gave wisdom and advice when asked for it. Yet you turned those very abilities against us."

The King's eyes narrowed, pupils thin slits, "And yet here you stand, challenging me, in my own domain. Are you that eager for death?"

Rigeulus was struggling to stay on his feet. His vision started to blur, hearing a voice. A forked tongue weakly lolled out of his jaws. His exhaustion, however, made it impossible to really tell who was there.

The words were a jumbled mess for the most part, until there was mention of his children being taken.

A deep growl sounded from where he stood. His eyes seemed to spark slightly, "T-touch...either of m-m-my young...and I'll fucking r-rip your throat out..."

The King pivoted, making an attempt to strike out with his claws, but simply ended up falling to the ground. He didn't move, trying to catch his breath.

They were all to blame, every last one of them. They took her from him, they killed her for their own gain.

Her broken body laid before him. The pain he felt, there was nothing like it in the world. He could've saved her, should've been there...yet he hadn't been...tired...he felt tired...

"So, we are but prey to him? Hmph, very well, unfortunate for him that this prey fights back."

The news spread like wildfire within the mountains. Dragons and dragonelles swarmed within the tunnels and caves. Even the usual sluggish cave of elders was buzzing with unease.

The beasts swarmed the main cavern, spiraling around their massive king who slowly rose. The very earth shook under his weight as he moved. It had been so long since he truly had left his home, but it seemed the time was once again coming.

His burning eyes looked over the dragons that swarmed around him. Being king, his size was unmatched. He continued to slowly rise, claws pulling him upwards, scales scraping against rock. For the Dragon King to suddenly move, the rest of his kind knew that the matter was urgent and had to dealt with quickly.

Dragons flew upwards, flocking the huge mountain. Dark clouds started to gather overhead, flashes of lightning dancing across blackened sky. A rumble that shook the very ground sounded. The top of Mount Draconis exploded, rocks raining downwards.

A great horned head emerged, continuing to rise upwards. Giant wings unfolded, darkening the world below. The Dragon King had awoken, and in his wake a fury like no other could be felt, the very earth quaking in fear.

The Dragon King had heard. His form instantly bristled, a streak of lightning striking downwards, barely touching his gigantic form. The beast's eyes burned with a rage and hatred like no other. Lips curled back, revealing fangs that made even the tallest of men appear small. From his great jaws, liquid fire started to drip, flames licking his muzzle.

"Keep the dead out of this. Focus on what is alive."

Appeared the words about the King's deceased mate struck a cord. The winds howled around him, his wings continuing to beat the air with a loud crack with each flap.

Rigeulus' lips curled back, once again showing his fangs. His tail lashed slowly one way, then the other. Dragons looked towards their King, awaiting for his voice.

"You do not control me child. I listen only to one, and one alone. The very being that started this world's existence, created man, dragon, and other creatures."

Dragons seemingly rumbled in agreement. Every dragon knew of the 'High One' which the King spoke of. Eyes turned back to the world below, the rumble seemingly grew louder.

"Learn your place young one. You speak to a King who has the blood of the 'Supreme God'."

King Rigeulus simply snarled in response. The sky above seemingly started to part, the silver once again showing upon his scales. The King's eyes started to swirl to blue. His muzzle started to open, bluish silver flames licking the edges.

"My daughter is no fool. She knows better than to..."

As if on cue, a flash of gold appeared, followed by a red. Though the red was having a more difficult time trying to keep up clearly. All heads turned as the Dragon Princess appeared. The Prince was lagging behind, for obvious reasons. However, he wasn't about to let his sister out of his sight for even a second.
Instead of her usual flit to lay upon her father's head, the golden beast headed towards the human Prince's side. Her form shimmered, once again human as soon as her feet touched the ground.

As for the Dragon Prince, he pulled into a hover beside his father, jaw dropping. Though he was quick to close his muzzle. Instead, the look he gave the human...if looks could kill, anyone and anything in the red dragon's gaze would've dropped dead. However, the emotion in his eyes were hard to tell as they settled on his sister. Prince Fuego shook his head, looking in a different direction, not saying a word. He would leave that to his father...which he felt wasn't going to be a good reaction...

The Dragon King's form changed to something else entirely as he saw her land so calmly next to their enemy, the very ones who murdered his mate, her mother...
Rigeulus snapped something, his great body lowering downwards. Just as Farah, as his feet touched the ground, his form changed as well. He appeared completely different than when he had faced Yasha those few days back, having a more formal appearance. The Dragon Prince soon also stood human, shorter than his father, but he'd get there one day.

"Farah, you are suppose to be in the Mountains...Prince Fuego..."

King Rigeulus suddenly turned to look at his son. His eyes were glowing again. The King curled his lips back, showing fangs that didn't belong to any human. A tail suddenly snaked out from behind him, lashing the Dragon Prince across his already injured back, causing the other to yelp, falling to the ground and curling into himself.
"Foolish chick! I know you are eager to please me, but mind your actions! Bringing your sister onto the battlefield, stupid!"

As for Farah, she seemingly sighed softly. It was an uncommon sight yes, but there had been a few times before Farah had witnessed such an act. Though, usually it was a tail across the Prince's muzzle if he started to get smart with her father. At the moment right then, it was a bit unnecessary, since the Dragon Princess came on her own accord.
The Dragon Princess was silent, watching as her brother forced himself to stand again. The Dragon Prince turned his gaze to the ground, allowing his hair to cover his eyes. His wings were limp against his back, tail tucked between his legs.

"Prince Fuego tried to stop me from leaving my King, so please, don't take your anger out on him..."

Rigeulus had been glaring at his son for several moments, then heard his daughter speak. The male's head turned, his gaze soon settling upon her. The Dragon King's eyes seemed dim, somber. He regretted what he had done to his son just then, but he wouldn't say that outloud...
"Still, as Prince and your brother, he should've tried a bit harder to keep you safe...Farah, go back home."

The Dragon Princess felt suddenly conflicted. It wasn't often she saw such a sad look in the Dragon King's eyes...he truly wanted only the best for her, to keep her away from prying eyes and greedy hands who simply wanted her for her rarity...

"I...I-I can't...this war...this fighting...it needs to stop..."

The Dragon King grew quiet, not saying a word.

"The Battle has finished...the price heavy on all of us...dragons, we were created to guide man...but we have only managed to lead you astray, just as I have been led astray...pain and sorrow covered by a mask of vengeance."
