Ellan Ann Smith was born and raised in the northern part of Mississippi, just near the border to Tennessee. She had a relatively normal childhood, with 2 brothers and 3 sisters. When Ellan was 19 she ran away from home and eloped with a man named Henry Copelan. They had 3 children (Lune, Stacy, and Theodore) and were together for 8 years before a divorce. She later married another man, Benjamin Dowdle. They had twins together, Jace and Raja, but unfortunately Jace died in her sleep by accidental suffocation. Ellan was sad and wanted to mourn, but she also wanted to be there for her children. So she bottled those feelings up and never really dealt with them. Benjamin died 12 years later by an unknown cause. By now all of her children were out of the house and she was alone. She started dating Catherine Smith and in 2002 they flew out to the Netherlands and got married. Theodore and Raja were ok with her; they didn’t think that she could replace their dead father. Stacy and Lune also felt this way, but they had so many changes that they didn’t really like her. Catherine and Ellan still live together, and most of the time take care of their grandchildren.
