Born as Silan to King Valder and Queen Merraine, Milo is the second in line to the throne of Arribea after his older brother, Tyriad. From a young age, Silan dreamed of joining the Arribean military and moving up in the ranks. Because of his status, Silan had no problems getting accepted into Arribea's military. Silan quickly became a very skilled sword fighter, but his skills with other types of weapons were often average at best.
When Silan was 13, he discovered that he had a Dreaming ability which allowed him to interact with others in his dream. It was through this ability that he came to see that his father's actions were not improving the Kingdom as he had initially thought. After getting to know some other dreamers, Silan was determined for things to change. He spent the next two years training, before he confronted his father. However, the confrontation went horribly wrong and ended with Silan leaving Valdemar after being disowned by his family.
He spent the next few weeks travelling across Arribea with nothing but his horse, his sword, some money and the clothes on his back. Word had spread across the Kingdom that he had been disowned, so at this point Silan began to go by Milo in an attempt to form a new identity for himself. Milo found himself in trouble when he ran out of money without a place to stay. Not willing to part with his few possessions, Milo became homeless and found himself trying to survive the harsh Arribean winter.
Milo was eventually found by a Kamarian blacksmith named Selwyn. At this point, Milo was suffering from hypothermia and Selwyn took him in and helped nurse him back to health. When it came to light that Milo had nowhere to stay, Selwyn offered to let him stay and become his apprentice. Milo agreed and although he has been living with Selwyn ever since, he still hopes that one day he will be able to get revenge on his father for the way he treated him.
