Tani is a free spirit. She is quite content to keep her own company, discovering more about the places she frequents and the people (and animals) she finds there.

She resents being controlled but can find it difficult to be assertive in confronting those who would take advantage of her.

• Volatile: Tani is easily swayed by her emotions (and the emotions of others) and can go from calm to overwrought in a matter of seconds.


• Defiant: A free spirit, Tani resents being leashed and controlled.

She tends to withdraw when experiencing unwanted emotions. This is partly due to how obviously she displays them.

In cat form, Tani will often respond to external circumstances in a cat-like manner, but not necessarily for the same reasons. For example, she does not find most animals threatening (including dogs) but will strongly object to being picked up.

Tani was raised in a farming life but has been working as Lord Rilvan's spy for the last three years.

Practitioners of Bittereth revere the Seven Deities according to their needs or stage of life. Tani, as a young woman in captivity, prays most often to Lili, goddess of healing, hearth and rain, and sometimes to Briend, goddess of fire, war and revenge.

Tani is strongly against the banning of magic.

Her mother’s necklace, polished opal fragments on strong knotted cord. Opal is considered a sign of Lili’s blessing and protection for the wearer.

Tani has had no formal education, but having been raised on a farm she is familiar with the cycle of growing crops and animal husbandry. She has a good grasp of numbers and seasons and knows how to find edible plants outside of a garden.

During her time in Mandur, Tani has learned more about the customs of nobles and the vocabulary they use; however, she is still illiterate.

Early Life
Tani was born the third child and second daughter to a loving farming couple in their small home on the outskirts of Thul, a town in central Gàldorë. She had a happy, uneventful childhood, playing and doing chores with her older siblings and the two younger siblings which followed. She had a particular affinity to the animals on the farm, and they would often do her quiet bidding, always more docile in her presence.

A ways out from the capital, laws against magic were not enforced quite as strictly. Tani's grandfather spoke nostalgically of his older brother who, a wielder of beast magic, would shift into a hawk and enjoy the freedom of the sky. Tani plied her grandfather with questions, certain her gift mirrored that of her great-uncle. And she was right. After many stolen moments of observing the farm cats and intense concentration, Tani managed to shift into a cat herself for a few brief seconds. She was nearly ten.

But over the next few years she did it too often and for too long. She was spotted mid-shift by a village boy who had come to buy eggs and, hoping for a reward from the local law enforcement, he managed to catch her a few weeks later.

She was thirteen. The local law enforcement sentenced her to the mines of Mandur despite the pleas of her parents and the village lad himself, who did not realise the gravity of his actions.

Later Life
Once at the mines, Tani worked to retrieve ore from the labyrinthine tunnels. This only lasted a few months before she managed to shift into cat form unnoticed and attempt escape. She was caught by one of the guards and would have faced severe punishment and possible death had Lord Rilvan, overseer of the mines, not stepped in and put a stop to it.

Lord Rilvan often selected those of particular magical skill to work for him directly, and Tani impressed him. He made her a deal: to repay the debt she owed him, she would work for him and perhaps by doing so would one day earn her freedom and a safe passage home to her family.

In cat form, Tani keeps an eye on the manor inhabitants and staff and reports any unusual activity to Lord Rilvan. Because of this, he is able to better keep his illegal operations under wraps. The only ones who know of Tani's humanness are Lord Rilvan and Hàdèn, the user of light magic in his employ.

Tani is particularly drawn to Lord Rilvan's daughter, Marisel, for while the young lass opposes the monarchist position as does her father, she does not seek to use others for her own gain.

Used to own a mouser named Stockings and her various litters of kittens back on her parents' farm.
