Athena grew up in Bristol, Wyoming with her mother and two older brothers. She was really quiet and social anxious as a kid, and didn’t make many friends, she made her first true friend that she felt she could trust, Natalie, in 3rd grade. She often stayed with Natalie and hung out at her house due to the borderline abusive relationship she had with her mom. Her brothers once tried to take Athena way when they themselves where running away when she was 9 in 1964, but where returned home as the brothers were both still teenagers. Athena never really met her father as he lived in Canada and her mother did everything in her power to stop the children from getting passports. When Athena’s eldest brother turned 18, he moved out, but would often come to visit and take Athena away from the home. he would never take her back to his place due to the fact that he lived in a really shady part of town and did not think that would be good on Athena. Around this time Athena found an older gay man living in the building who was lonely after his ‘bachelor friend’ who lived with him died. He took Athena under his wing and even taught her to drive. Athena confided in the man that she felt different from everyone else, a bit isolated. By now in 1972, when she is 17, both of her brothers have moved out of the house and she understands now that she likes girls to her horror. She has a big crush on Natalie and even though she wants to help her get with a boy, she also wants to confess her feelings and have Natalie to herself.

Tina was a more popular name and Athe is just short for Athena because Natalie doesn't like really long names or pronouncing things all the way through.
