History
Bella spent much of her youth in her father's library; an impressive collection of books both mundane and magical. Her father was an archaeologist who believed that when the world was young, magic dominated. He was determined to find evidence for the old magic, and he became discredited and ridiculed for his opinions.
When Bella was a teenager, her father went on an expedition that he was sure would provide the proof he needed. He was gone for five years, an Bella gave up all hope of him ever returning.
One night, Bella was woken by the maid, who fearfully told her there were people in the house, and they had to leave. Bella wouldn't leave; she armed herself with her fathers old flintlock, and tried to chase away the robbers. They knocked her out, and stole the majority of the library that had worth, before setting the place on fire. Bella woke in the burning library, and tried to save what books she could- before she passed out from the smoke on the lawn. When she woke, the fire had been fought down, but the entire library was lost.
The fire had burnt the wood panelling in the library, and so Bella found a small hidden compartment, just large enough for one book. It was her fathers journal, which detailed his research.
Bella was determined, from then, to restore both her fathers library and his good name. She knew she had to do what he never had the chance to do; to prove he was right.
