Calla has a deep devotion to Oleander's cause, having joined up with him before his possession. She saw it as a way to gain power, which she lacked. Despite being a cousin of King Aspen, she had little respect from the Autumn Court and disliked it in return. When her cousin Esther Greybriar got engaged to Oleander, Calla seized the opportunity and went to the remains of the Court of Darkness with her. She joined the Court's guard and quickly rose through the ranks. Her no-nonsense personality divided the other faeries; some saw her as a skilled commander who knew what she wanted, and others as a closed-off and cold-hearted woman who wasn't even from the court she had status in. Renowned for her knowledge of poisons and her deep ambitions, Calla is both feared and revered.

Though she was born and raised in the Autumn Court, she wasn't well-liked and flocked to Oleander's side when he offered her power and wealth. After spending years working beside him, she begins to grow disillusioned, especially after witnessing what he did to Lavinia Grey. The tipping point was when he kidnapped Ophelia Carinter, a sixteen year old mortal girl, with the intent to marry her. This led her to attempt to assassinate Oleander, which eventually cost her her life.
Partially responsible for Esther running away from the Court of Darkness, due to her fling with Oleander while he and Esther were married.
