He comes from a family of six with three siblings: an older sister (Johanna), older brother (Sorin), and younger brother (Stelian). His dad was well known for being worse off than everyone else yet still being better than those who pitied him, and did struggle with alcoholism. His wife came from a wealthier family than his, but after getting married, her strong family bonds became less and less until they barely existed. Her sole purpose was to make him feel good about himself as well as pity him. She was an extension of him and reported back to him every aspect of her life, including their children, whom she spent most of her time at home caring for.
When Johanna became old enough to reach the counter, she was delegated household responsibilities and easily fell into the same, submissive position as her mother was in. Their father had a favorite son that changed on a whim, and the ones who weren't the favorite were barely shown any love or affection at all. In her mid-teens, Johanna ran away, leaving her brothers on their own. It all ended seemingly when their father died of blood loss after a bar fight.
With each of them free to live without their father's expectations hovering over their shoulders, Sorin came to resent everything that dared to even remind him of his father, resulting in a few arrests for vandalism and the final (as in current) arrest for aggravated assault; Stelian became trapped in his emotions as the defeated child who knew he would never amount to anything and resorted to escapism via drugs, and Mihai, well... he's the best.

He has no pictures of his family anywhere in his home, but he has a few ripped up ones of his siblings buried in his wallet.
