A black and red umbrella, made of a strange material that feels like silk to the touch. The handle of the umbrella is made of varnished black wood, with the Daemon Controlling Seal carved in it. The top of the umbrella is a delicate golden decoration, shaped like an opened flower.

In her true demonic form, she is a very slender and tall black smoke figure, with two oblong red eyes. Her head has horns resembling the petals of the flower decoration on her umbrella. Despite looking unnaturally thin, she is actually wrapped in a cape like veil - upon spreading her arms, she resembles a bat like creature with a thin body and red "underwings" (think Demongo from Samurai Jack)

Youthful, long, with soft cheeks, a thin pointy nose and full lips. She has large round eyes and well defined high eyebrows - she has a scar on the right corner of her mouth, that starts at the nose base level and extends to her chin

The same signature outfit of a daemon, except she wears a straw hat that imitates the umbrella she possesses and a large grey cape she wraps herself in.
Underneath the cape, she wears a black skin tight short tank top, a red vest and black tights. Her waist is left uncovered, revealing another scratch like scar on the left side, above her navel.

Hikari is known for her cheerful and outgoing personality. She always has her goofy and somewhat obnoxious sense of humor on full display, and takes no shame in flirting with whoever she interacts with. She enjoys poking fun at her partner, Shiranui, endlessly trying to break her cold exterior and get out a smile.
Despite the seemingly unprofessional attitude, she takes her duties seriously and even though she's usually cheerful and positive, she does hold a bit of a grudge against Rin, for making a hole in her umbrella fabric and breaking Shiranui's zither. She slowly forgives him over time, as she is secretly very curious about how he was able to gain a personality, given that Rin was initially created without a core.

She's a hard core fujoshi, sometimes reading yaoi novels for entertainment - while it may seem disgusting for others, she's mostly in for the romantic plots (daemons can't get horny, anyway). She secretly fangirls over Hiryur and Virion.

Gesticulates a lot, usually making different weird poses when she explains something. She doesn't pay as much attention to her manners as her friend, demonstrated by her posture when seated. She is also very expressive, talking fast and flirting every now and then. She swings her legs when she sits in a high place, and often hides her face with her straw hat when she wants to look mysterious. She is the touchy-feely type, as she often hugs or grabs Shiranui, much to the latter's dismay

For a being that has lived at least 1700 years in total, she knows a lot of things, although she rarely shows exactly how much she knows

Her life as a Morphidae was relatively normal, with nothing important worth noting. It seems as she was fairly young when she was turned into a daemon, as there is no record of her having a family of her own - she did have a brother, with whom she was pretty close.

After she was transformed into a daemon and lost all memory of her previous life, she was often used alongside other other daemons, given her ability to capture anything. Thanks to her, the experiment was able to progress further, as they now had more subjects to work on. Even after the invention of the core-less daemons, she was still a very popular choice among her owners.

She was paired with Shiranui for a while, but even after the zither daemon was put out of use, they remained friends and would often be seen in each other's company. She too would later lose some of her popularity, as the experiment had already created enough daemons, but she would still be used every now and then in various other matters, less important

After Rin's awakening, she and Shiranui were sent to fetch the group of children that had awakened him, but since the male daemon had orders to protect, he fought the two.

Unlike her or Shiranui, Rin was a weapon type daemon, one that was also rumored to be a defect, so when Hikari tried capturing him with her umbrella, he managed to stay awake despite the zither's charms and with his sword, he managed to slice a hole in the umbrella's fabric. Once he escaped, he quickly overpowered both of them, breaking Shiranui's strings. Faced with defeat, all Hikari could do was to grab her friend's zither and make a run for it.

After Shiranui's zither was repaired, the two came back after Rin, but this time without the intent to capture him. Instead, they followed him from afar, trying to understand the nature of his behavior.

Cetuine

The scar on her mouth was caused by Rin slashing through her umbrella fabric. The fabric was stitched back, but this in turn gave her the scar she now has, as sometimes, damage done to the item is reflected on the daemon.

Crimson Set Daemon

Daemons usually appear as entities made of dark matter, usually smoke or fire, with glowing orbs for eyes and restraints surrounding them like transparent cages.
If they are asked to, they can take a human form that can vary, depending on the master's preferences. No matter their appearance, all daemons wear a black skin-tight turtle neck shirt, that conceals the seal drawn on the back of their necks

Out of all 24 demons, only the first 8 have personalities of their own, as their soul core was kept intact. These daemons are a little pretentious, as they must first be subdued before they can be used - most of them possess various items, as they were deemed too unstable to be used in actual weapons. Even though their original essence is pretty much intact, they do not recall their previous lives as Morphidae.
The other 16 have no core, thus they do not show any resistance in being controlled. They are often recognized by their hollow, mechanical-like behavior, acting only under the command of their owner - they are considered to be the ultimate servants, as they never question any of the orders they are given, since they do not have a mind of their own.

The Crimson set was created by Mahiru in order to wipe out the entire Morphidae race as revenge.
The very first Cursed Item was created close to when the world was still young. The rest of the items came into existence way later, after the idea of "gear" was first thought of. Many of the prototype items were pretty faulty and hard to use, but in the end, the procedure was perfected and 22 items were created, each one better than the last.
The final two items were created much later, closer to the time of the story. Rin was thought to have been the last Cursed Item to ever be created before the destruction of the experimental facilities, although there are rumors of a secret 24th item, created in secret by one of the last survivors of the project

The 8 sentient daemons have control over their actions, which in turn can give a hard time to their owners. They can complain or even refuse to lend their power.
A magic nullifier causes daemons to return to their item form, and the item itself loses any magic for a certain amount of time.

The lifespan of a daemon from a cursed gear item is unknown, usually depending on the lifespan of the object they are bound to - upon the item's destruction, the magic within it disperses and the daemon ceases to exist

The abilities of the daemons are usually closely related to the item they are bound to. Almost all daemons are capable of shape-shifting, regeneration, illusions and even minor healing.

Four Winds - Whenever the umbrella is opened, it creates a powerful swirling wind that sucks in the nearest person it is thrown at (the user is not affected). Once the subject is captured, the umbrella closes and the victim is unable to exit it until the umbrella is opened again. The interior of the umbrella is something similar to an endless storage space.
