Overview
Kasey
A tired high school-er who's not emo, okay, just going through a lot right now.
17
Agender (he/him/they/them)
Looks
5'10"
155 lbs.
Average, on the slim side despite his tummy chub; all soft angles, with pretty strong thighs from regular jogs with their mom and walking to and from school.
Black. Secretly would like to dye the tips blond, or red, but Kasey hasn't gotten around to talking to Undine about getting it done.
Faded sides, with short, baby locs.
Human; African-American.
Dark brown, olive undertones.
Deep brown, and containing a lot of emotion.
Some days, after a bad night of crying, he wears strategically-applied eye-shadow.
Nature
Kasey has horribly frightening recurring nightmares; he's had them for as long as he can remember, and often during the day they'll experience piercing migraines, that no amount of aspirin seems to help (they lie though, and tell people it does so he can be left alone).
Hugs himself when he's feeling self-conscious, which is often. Kicks at the ground when they're impatient or irritated or even just idle. Nervousness provokes shifty eyes, and he begins pulling at the rubber bands around his wrist, pulling them back and letting them flick against his skin, over and over and over and over. Right leg vibrates whenever he sits, no matter his mood: they'd rather be walking around.
He knows it's just a phase, that hormones are raging and he's changing and ugh whatever, but they feel horrible and miserable at so many intervals during the day and he just wants to fast-forward to when he's older and feeling okay and these nightmares have stopped and he has friends other than his Mom, for fuck's sake.
Has consistency and commitment issues; Kasey has trouble starting large, or even small, tasks, and has trouble finishing projects. Doesn't matter how close they are to finishing, there's something about it that they just, they just can't finish, they can't do it they can't and he hates it he hates himself, god.
Internalizes a lot of their anger, is uncomfortable crying around anyone, even his Mom. Because of this their emotions tend to all rush out in a huge wave, all at once when something hits a little too hard, when they're a little too tired, when they're just too done with everything.
Knows how to come off harmless to strangers and acquaintances, while making it clear he can hold his ground. Is surprisingly decent at icebreakers, feels a need to ease whatever tension may be in the air for their own comfort. Is able to hold off melt-downs until he's safe and alone, because the fear of public humiliation is enough adrenaline to keep him alert and aware of their surroundings.
Scrolling through Twitter discourse without actually participating. Movie nights with Undine.
Takes a lot of walks, likes the feeling of moving without having a particular destination in mind. Literally walks circles around the block while listening to music.
Cynical the way teens tend to be. Despite this he always tries his best, and they really look up to their mom in regards to perseverance and strength (the quiet, reliable kind). Doesn't have much trouble forming connections, but unfortunately they don't really go out of their way to do so: Kasey isn't particularly lonely, and is on polite terms with most of his classmates but nothing more.
Hates when people he doesn't know well try to psycho-analyze him, or try to help him when he doesn't need it. Sometimes they feel like the whole world views them as incapable, just because they're sad and tired, when the two things are quite removed from one another in Kasey's mind.
Will never admit that they find sex jokes hilarious, but he's a high school-er after all, no matter how mature they think they are or pretend to be. Makes a lot of jokes that they know will fall flat, puns and word-association and deadpan, useless comments.
Social
High school student.
Leftist.
Literally saves cats from trees. That's all he wants, animal rights.
Doesn't believe in one God; they look at it rationally, at the fact that every major religion has a version of the Flood, at common threads between the myths and stories, and think "yeah, okay, maybe there's something, and everyone just interpreted it differently, cool cool". To Kasey there's the atmosphere, several elements that melded together to create the first step in the cycle of evolution; they aren't particularly curious to find out more, though.
Despite being a non-believer, he often frequents various religious temples, for the sole reason that he feels safer there. They like the sound of the hymns, the smell, the atmosphere.
He loves and will eat anything Undine makes.
Likes soft, dusted colors like beige and cream and salmon and off-white. Pastels are fine too.
Kitties and doggos.
History
October 4. Libra.
Goes to a private school. Is taking Comparative Literature, Computer Science and "Teen Court" electives.
Kasey's birth dad's situation was a sensitive case, and one reason Undine took such a particular interest in Kasey was seeing the parallel with her own parents and alcoholism, but here taken too far to be able to take proper care of Kasey. Undine started the official adoption process for Kasey when he was 5, after having spent almost two years fostering him. It was a long process, and they only got cleared a little after Kasey's 7th birthday.
Family
They have 4 cats that come and go, and one Doberman named Spark and sometimes Kasey and Undine and Spark will go to the park and all play Frisbee together.
Notes
Sometimes Kasey walks past a mirror and he swears, he swears, there’s a shadow enveloping him, towering over them with a grin.
Music
Here - Alessia Cara
I Am Not A Robot - MARINA
Heavydirtysoul - Twenty-One Pilots
Alone Together - Fall Out Boy
Attraction
¯_(ツ)_/¯ (Questioning)
Kasey's kind of "ugh, ew" about sex but that's more of a hygienic concern than anything??? Anyway not particularly excited for their first time.
Clothes
- Hoodies and sweaters with freaking shorts, like a dumb teen.
- Too-big shirts with cargo pants, necklaces but no bracelets, high-tops and chuck taylors.
- When he REALLY doesn't want to talk to anybody, he'll wear a mouth-mask even though he isn't sick.
Important Relationships
-
Undine: Kasey loves her. Like, he actively and consciously loves his mom, because she makes them feel safe and she's understanding instead of pitying and she listens when they talk and she's maybe the only adult who isn't condescending to him and his thoughts. She helps him with homework (or calls a friend so they can help) and they watch movies together and make stupid comments and he just trusts her, more than anyone in the world, so what if he's a Mama's Boy. But lately, the last year especially, Kasey has gotten the feeling that she's hiding something. Not from them, but more from the world, maybe even from herself. Kasey doesn't ask, because he knows Undine won't answer truthfully, and they don't want to put that kind of strain on the relationship, a relationship that's always been open and forward and founded on communication.
