Shani's real name is Kitty (Kitrine) Wendell. She comes from a 3-family group of wandering merchants, and knows Kairi Lostar from traveling through that area occasionally. Kitty had many friends, from all over, though she didn't see them much. The other people in her group were more like family than friends. She learned to cook, and she learned the art of selling, which she was good at, because she was extroverted and cute. When she was 11, a group of men attacked her group and killed almost everyone, before kidnapping her and a few of the other children and bringing them to Osisioku. She later found out that the reason they were attacked is because all 3 families were a remnant of one of the spirit animal tribes, and they all have the ability to turn into their spirit animals. The kidnappers' organization worked them as child-slaves, and would torture them in various ways to try to get them to shape-shift (it was a research project using human experimentation, sponsored by a different government). Eventually, they held Shani underwater, chained, and she turned into a bunny right before she passed out. She stayed in that form for several weeks, and managed to get away in that time. Kairi found her in the woods, and got her to calm down enough that she reverted back to a human.

When she was little she had a pet bird named Sunny. She never saw Sunny after she was kidnapped and has no idea if they killed him or if he escaped.

She wanted to use Gauntlets because she wanted to learn to be tough, not helpless like she was as a slave. This way, even if her weapon was taken, she'd be able to fight back.

She wears boots and cloth wrist braces all the time (partly for fighting, partly to cover up her scars). She also wears a half skirt and baggy, button down collared shirt with the sleeves torn off (she took Silver's old ones).
