Backstory: Kairi's family consisted of dirt poor farmers. Her mother died when she was 8. Her oldest sister Arin (she has 2 older sisters, 3 older brothers, and one younger brother) took on the role as mother until she got married, when Kairi was 10. After that, cooking was shoddy and thrown together, and cleaning was irregular. Kairi began learning to fight from her older bothers when she turned 10 (they gave her a copper dagger for her birthday)- she had started earlier, but her mother and then Arin had both disapproved. While learning to fight, she also helped on the farm- men's chores, traditionally. She learned to farm and hunt (this is why she uses hunting weapons as her main- bow and dagger), but can't cook or sew, or do laundry. When she was 12 she applied to CA and got in; she left home a few months early to look for "Shani" and brought only her clothes, her sister Arin's old boots, and her copper dagger. After that summer, she went to CA and met Lukke . They had a romantic relationship for a little while.

She wears what is traditionally considered men's clothing- baggy trousers and a shirt. She also wears old, patched boots that she secures on her feet by wrapping cloth around the ankles.
