Overview
Bayu
[NPC - any]
NPC
Professor
Male (he/him)
Not as old as he looks
Looks
Skyhem (so-called in the Kingdom of Aer, where legend says that this race was born from the loose thread when Aer mended a tear in the sky; also referred to as "sky-otters" around the Isle of Lore, although this is considered derogatory or at least familiar to the point of rudeness from any but the other instructors )
Nature
- He is definitely not a dragon, and he will tell you so at length.
- In fact a bit of a pedant at all times, prone to corrections and long, considered explanations. Everything is a teaching moment.
- Often spotted flying around the campus at dawn to greet the rising sun. Disgustingly cheerful in the mornings, even very early.
- Likes to sit on something that places him higher than his students while teaching.
- Talks a bit like a stuffy Oxford don
- To gain and share knowledge; nothing should be hidden, and no-one is unworthy of truth so long as they’re ready for it.
- Being forgotten
- Becoming irrelevant
Set in his ways, often unwilling to consider he may be wrong.
Very bad at reading the room.
He considers anyone who walks on two legs or who cannot fly to be poorly. As in, he pities them.
He creates sand paintings in his off time using his graceful prehensile tail and coloured dust.
He is an excellent flyer, and uses wind currents to move quickly. It is rumoured he can use these currents to break the sound barrier - but he considers it to be quite loud and unnecessary.

History
4th February
He began his career in training as a bard, but soon proved more skilled in lore and less in carrying a tune. Thereafter he studied history in the great temples of the kingdom of Aer, but became dissatisfied with what he saw as rampant censorship and propaganda.
Bayu’s mother was a musician of some renown, having both technical skill and great facility using aer magic for sound manipulation; she composed The Ballad Of Oak And Holly, a popular song recounting the origins of the blessing of eternal summer that lies across the land. It takes a lot of artistic license on facts but the tune is very catchy.
Bayu never really understood music, at least not in the way that would make for a rousing performance. He studied epic ballads for a time and then decided his true passion was history. However, delving into the truth behind the popular tales and ballads proved to be a dangerous business in the Kingdom of Aer. Attempting to write a series of essays on discoveries that conflicted with the acknowledged accounts may have slid by. The following series of essays, which accused Aer’s chosen of deliberately censoring the version of Inspera’s history being fed to the citizens, certainly could not.
When recounting his own history, Bayu will often shape the story to imply he willingly left the kingdom of his birth. He may indeed have been driven to travel partly to find libraries outside the grip of the priests of aer, but it is also the case that he is wanted for libel and heresy, and would likely face imprisonment or death if he ever went home.
It is true that unlike many of the exiles, Bayu deliberately sought out the Isle of Lore, hoping to find the truth behind the lies of his own kingdom.
