Overview
Ango
A humble bandit from dystopian America. The most loveable moron.
he's not quite sure--somewhere in his twenties
Male
No-Brainer (a teasing nickname the fighters gave him), Crowbait (his unofficial rank in his tribe), Lord of the Dance (a sarcastic reference to his clumsiness).
Looks
human
patchy blond stubble
haystack
Light blond
5'8"
I'm too lazy to calculate it out, but let's say he's pretty underweight for his age.
dark blue
none
One look at his crooked, gap-toothed, puppydog smile and you'll never forget him.
Tall and gangly, still looks like an awkward teenager. Probably because he was pretty malnourished for most of his youth.
fair but very suntanned
Nature
That's a tricky question. I guess he probably agrees with the general consensus of his tribe--that they're the best tribe, the others all suck, loot is awesome, etc.--but personally, he's not experienced (or opinionated) enough to have prejudices of his own.
Knife Party - Begin Again
Coldplay - Something Just Like This
None, as far as anyone can tell. The tribe doctor theorizes that a minor spinal injury as a child is what makes him so uncommonly kutzy, but at this point there's nothing to be done and he's adapted to it.
-trips over things/himself/nothing a lot
-every movement just makes him look even more like a baby moose
-almost always smiling when he's with his friends
-has the dorkiest laugh
-tends to slouch
-commonly stumbles over his own words
-very chatty
-talks to anyone who'll listen
-if he admires you, he'll believe anything you say, even if you betray his trust multiple times
-very quick to forgive
-often believes that whatever others say about him is true, even if it's mean
-the perfect comedy sidekick
-loves animals and helping people
-acts out imaginary scenarios when he thinks he's alone
-most of them feature him dramatically saving the day
-he doesn't realize that everybody knows what he's up to but no one has the heart to tease him about it
Wants to be "cool", wants to be liked by his friends, secretly kind of wants to be a superhero
Hopelessly ignorant on many, many topics, naïve, gullible, wears his heart on his sleeve, overestimates his own capability often, distractible, acts without thinking, is slow to learn and struggles to consider the potential consequences of his decisions.
Finding random things, making friends, surviving by sheer luck alone, miraculously avoiding injury, being nice to others, always finding his way home (eventually).
He instinctively goes completely floppy when falling from trees/clifftops, which helps him avoid major injuries most of the time.
Exploring the woods, hanging out with his friends, snooping around for food, looking at the pictures in old books and magazines he finds, daydreaming about being a superhero.
Dorky sweetheart that everyone kinda picks on but would also throw hands for at the drop of a hat
Social
A battered policeman's badge he found in an abandoned town once. He carries it in his pocket at all times and sometimes pretends he's hunting down criminals while out scavenging for supplies.
He's.....not a fighter by any stretch of the imagination. He's not even allowed to carry a knife for fear that he'll accidentally stab himself with it. He knows how to hit enemies with big sticks, though, in emergencies.
Anything as long as it doesn't make him sick later
Purple
He's one of the tribe's Scavengers, a low-level job that tends to be scorned and undervalued by the tribe's other major workforce, the Fighters.
Has no idea what the word even means, let alone the concepts it refers to
none
Isn't really clear on the concept of religion tbh
English. His grammar and vocab aren't that great though
dogs <3
History
Has basically no education, formal or informal. He knows the ropes of bandit life and a few random facts about how the world works, but that's about it. The new tribe doctor is working hard to teach Ango and the other bandits some very basic lessons on general health, disease prevention, first aid, etc, but it's slow going.
He was born in the endless slums of the east coast, roughly thirty years after America became a dystopian hellscape. He was raised by his single mother Taya, who worked in a clothing shop to support them both. He liked to pitch in by collecting scraps with his other young friends and selling them, although this put him in dangerous situations more frequently than his mother liked. When he was a teenager, his mother's health began to fail, and since she knew there was no one else there to take him in when she died, she told him to head west in search of a man with scars on his face, who she described as "an old family friend". She wrote the man a letter explaining things and asked Ango to deliver it straight to him. Ango couldn't read, and never found out what the letter said. But still he faithfully agreed and, when his mother finally passed away, began his journey out of the slums.
It wasn't an easy trip. Many times he was almost trapped by circumstance or killed by murderous criminals for the meager possessions he had. But somehow, as if by the blessing of some particularly powerful god, he stumbled his way across the Eastern Region and through several bandit territories until he found the Hounds. He instantly saw Boar-back's ruined face and offered him the letter, terrified that he'd found the wrong person. But when the aging bandit leader finished reading, he put the letter in his pocket and announced that Ango was now part of their tribe, without a word of explanation. To his immense relief, Ango had finally arrived home.
What Ango doesn't know is who the leader really is. When Taya was much younger, she and Boar-back were briefly in love. They fought, tragedy struck, and they went their separate ways--but not before Taya got pregnant with Ango. She never told Ango who his father was, nor did she tell Boar-back about his son until her illness forced her hand. She explained everything in the letter, praying that Boar-back was still the mostly good, wise man she remembered. Luckily for Ango, he was. But he didn't reveal himself to his son-- whether out of shame, cowardice, or a wish to protect him, we may never know.
Even he has no idea
Family
There are a couple tribe dogs he's managed to befriend, he likes to think of them as his own.
Inventory
Whatever he can find. Usually they're very worn, poorly fitting, and make him look like a fashion disaster.
Notes
Important: The whole "Ango is Boar-back's son" detail is a massive spoiler for my book. Do not throw that info around if you know!! Thanks!! xD
