Nature
She doesn’t care for people staring at her scars and when she feels vulnerable she will instinctively cover or obscure them.
As the oldest of four siblings all seeking to follow in their mother’s footsteps Matcha has assumed the mantle of the firstborn to set an example and a standard for her younger sisters to live up to and measure their own experiences by. She wants to make her family proud, but internally is still looking for her own purpose in pursuing the life of a huntress.
With the responsibility and pressures Matcha assumes she puts considerable stress on herself and internalizes many of her shortcomings and failures, even assuming responsibility for the wrongdoing of those in her personal life for her failure to intervene. This leads to burnout, struggling self-esteem, and general anxiety. She copes with the emotional distress this creates by burying herself in chores and training and study, though she does her best to hide her internal struggles with a sunny and outgoing attitude-denying her own feelings in favor of the comfort of others.
Compounding her personal struggles she’s somewhat self-conscious of her physical appearance, though less than she used to be. More importantly she’s developed a fear of fire, causing her to have shied away from the use of burn dust which had once been a prominent component of her fighting style. She’s known to sit away from campfires and gets nervous around flame-based semblances.
Matcha understands much of the typical gamut of stereotypes about other people in Remnant possessed by the typical citizen of Vale. Atlesians are rich and smart and strong, but mean and strict and exploitative. Mistrali are crafty and cunning, dangerous and not to be trusted. Vacuites are tough and mysterious, and lead tough lives-but free from control.
Her feelings on Faunus aren’t so hateful as many others, as her humble upbringing saw many of them as neighbors and customers. She sees them as different from humans, but struggles to understand where the problem lies. She doesn’t think about it much, but she finds certain varieties of Faunus very intimidating.
Discipline - Especially for someone her age, Matcha maintains a rigorous schedule for physical and combat training, an uncommon respect for rules and how they should be implemented, patience, and a high standard for her personal performance.
Despite her insistence that cooking and cleaning are her only hobbies, it’s difficult to believe that she hasn’t merely adopted them as a byproduct of her upbringing. She likes to go for walks and explore when she can, but failing that she falls back on consuming as much garbage entertainment she can find about Huntsmen-especially movies and comic books, and usually accompanied by piles of unhealthy snacks.
Between working in her father’s inn and training under her mother’s rigorous tutelage Matcha developed a positive ethic about hard work, a respect for authority, the value in being polite to everyone and when she needed to stand up for herself; all built around a core of self-reliance. While she was the eldest child working at the inn many of the villagers came to see her as their local sweetheart, with old-timers coming by to have someone to talk to and younger fellows looking to be served by a pretty young girl. Well, pretty until the burns anyways. She was never sure how to handle the attention and did her best to focus on work when people sought her out, giving her the impression of a workaholic.
Matcha has a shy streak when it comes to engaging strangers her own age, but will always be one of the first to step up to the task when there’s work that needs doing. Under the surface she’s a stress ball but can’t seem to let her guard down around other people lest they see that she’s struggling too. She would much rather bend over backwards to take care of someone else’s problems-even a stranger-than ask for help from another, though she’s not so proud to turn away help when it’s offered freely. Especially older huntsmen, which seem to be the weakness in her romantic teen heart.
Because of her background she has a tendency to mother people and assume a certain level of responsibility which she is not entitled to, in part due to a sincere desire to see others do well but also an instinct from raising her younger sisters. It can make her come off as rude and invasive, or if misinterpreted, that she has a deeper interest in someone than in reality. Her attitude towards right and wrong, or generally responsibility can chafe with the type who have issues with authority.
In the past she has had worse self-esteem issues about her outward appearance but has managed to put them behind her. Matcha’s cheerful disposition generally shines through her scars and puts people at ease who may at first find them off putting. Harsh remarks directed at her appearance do cut her deeply but she has put herself into the state of mind that her goal is to grow into a strong huntress, not be the prettiest girl. She can handle friendly jabs well enough, but there is always a lingering insecurity that her training and hard work still can’t fix her looks.
Perseverance - For as much as she makes herself suffer she is constantly struggling to improve, to become stronger and make it through every challenge she meets.

History
June 20th
From about the age she could walk Matcha was trying to follow in her mother’s footsteps as a warrior. When her mother was gone on missions, she would study her old martial arts manuals from Mistral. By the time Matcha was old enough to attend Pharos Academy she had quite a headstart as a fighter, though her Semblance training has always been lacking. She has a romantic view of professional huntsmen and has been known to seek them out outside of the school environment for supplementary training.
Matcha was born and raised in a little village somewhere between Vale and Vacuo called Watchtower. So named for the big stone ruin that still stands there today which was once used to watch for bandit raiders from Vacuo in the days before The Great War. It is now little more than a rest-stop for travelers going one way or the other. One of the few prominent structures in Watchtower that isn’t crumbling is a roadside inn called The Jade Desert. Either some kind of reference to Vale’s lush greenery and Vacuo’s arid desert, or because of all the tacky Mistrali-themed decor.
The Jade Desert was a tea shop, but with the location being what it was, most folks found a cup of tea a lot more appealing after they had found a bed for the night. The rural lifestyle of their neighbors who filled the dining room tables night after night didn’t produce many tea connoisseurs. The owner and proprietor of The Jade Desert is a man named Taro Oolong, who inherited through his father, as he did before him. Taro Oolong would soon become Matcha’s father after meeting a wandering huntress by the name of Anko Silat.
Anko was pursuing an especially fearsome Grimm in the Vale-Vacuo border region and on her hunt she stopped through Watchtower times after time as false leads and dead ends confounded her chase. She would become well acquainted with Taro and kept a room at The Jade Desert as her base of operations for her mission. Taro always figured that she would leave when she finished the job, but when she did disappear she had left everything behind. Unsettled by this discovery he gathered up some villagers to mount a search and rescue.
The Grimm had defeated Anko and forced her to flee for her life. She was gravely injured and in no condition to return to town under her own power. When Taro and the villagers found her she was on death’s door, and they put her up in The Jade Desert while she recovered. It was during this time that she and Taro would form a growing bond.
By the time Matcha was born her mother was itching to return to her career as a full-time Huntress. Their home felt empty at first, though Anko took as many missions close to home as she could. When Matcha was old enough her father put her right to work at the inn where she learned to cook and clean. When her siblings were born it often fell to her to look after them while her parents were busy working.
Her mother would regale her with stories of her adventures and how she came to be with her father. Stories that left a strong impression on a young Matcha who grew to idolize her mom and the thrills of the huntsman lifestyle. She sought to emulate her, following in her training routines and playing Huntress around the village with the other kids.
One day while playing in the old village by the watchtower Matcha and the local kids ran into the Grimm. Most of them had the good sense to run for help but Matcha had had her head filled with tales of daring and bravery, and tried to draw her pursuers through the ruins to buy time for the others. Things didn’t quite go as planned. Among her would-be rescuers was a well-meaning huntsman who intercepted the Grimm pursuing Matcha and cut them off while his cohorts flanked the beasts. Matcha was unfortunately caught in the middle.
A fire broke out, trapping her between the Grimm and the huntsman. Before anyone realized that there was a child in the kill zone Matcha had been severely burned. One of the other huntsmen pulled her out of the flames and away to safety, all while fighting off the Grimm one-handed. Had her Aura not been awakened by the traumatic experience she easily might have died, but the event would solidify her obsession with the huntsman lifestyle forever. Before her injuries finished healing Matcha redoubled her efforts to train with her mother, and begged her parents to send her to Pharos Academy when she was old enough. Her younger siblings got caught up in the fervor as well and before long the villagers would tease Taro about the dojo his wife appeared to be starting in the back garden of The Jade Desert.
Instead of playing pretend in the ruins, the village kids started coming to The Jade Desert to learn martial arts. Then their older siblings started to show up. Soon there were adults studying in the garden as well. Taro got so sick of his neighbors trampling on his radishes or throwing each other into his cabbage patch that he cleared out one of the inn’s unused storehouses so they could convert it into a proper classroom. When Anko was away on missions they would all study from her growing collection of combat manuals, until they started pleading with other huntsmen passing through the inn to teach guest lessons. Word began to get out between travelers about the fledgling combat school in Watchtower, their own little claim to fame.
Matcha went on to attend Pharos Academy as she dreamed, admitted a few months early with the sponsorship of a couple local huntsmen who had taken a personal interest in her since the incident that disfigured her in the old ruins. Her performance was exemplary given her humble background, but the lauded spot at the top of the class would continue to elude her and reaffirm her desire to grow stronger. Continuing on to Beacon Academy was only the next logical step in her career.

Family
Mother: Anko Oolong - An accomplished Mistrali huntress with a passion for exploration and hardworking innkeepers. More than her career as a huntress, she's known for her martial arts skills and appears to have a promising life ahead of her teaching her own combat school whenever she’s ready to hang up the huntsman lifestyle. She wields a pair of pile-bunker tonfa that transform into big-bore magnum revolvers. Her semblance is somewhat similar to Matcha’s in how it allows her to charge an object with energy, though rather than requiring kinetic input Anko discharges from her immense reserve of aura to amplify her attacks to compensate for her less impressive physical strength.
Father: Taro Oolong - Seventh generation owner of The Jade Desert tea shop and inn of Watchtower, Vale. He earnestly believes that hard work is the key to happiness and manages his family business with an iron gauntlet. When he’s not chasing his offspring around the kitchen with a cleaver he’s a loving and supportive father who enjoys gardening and swapping stories with his guests.
Siblings: Mint Oolong - The second eldest of the Oolong sisters, Mint most strongly resembles their mother Anko with long flowing dark hair and the delicate complexion of a Mistrali aristocrat. When Matcha left for combat school Mint stepped up to take her place as the hostess of The Jade Desert, taking up the mantle with a natural grace her older sister never inherited, even as young as she was. She has the best business sense of the Oolong sisters and shows promise as a potential future manager of the inn, though she shares her father’s passion and fascination with tea. She trains with a pair of tonfa with built-in armor-piercing submachine guns, though always excelled with the paired sickles. Her semblance creates afterimages that trail her movements, used mainly to turn a single strike into multiple strikes.
Mocha Oolong - Sort of the “middle child” of the Oolong sisters, Mocha struggles to figure out where she fits in. Though she has her father’s complexion and her mother’s looks she lacks the same passions about the inn or life as a huntsman as the rest of her family. She wants to become a huntress not to follow in her mother’s footsteps but to see the farthest reaches of Remnant and find herself out there-making her more like her mother than she realizes. She puts off the vibe of being a carefree airhead totally lost in thought most of the time, as she’s always thinking about other places and other lives. She uses a pair of tonfa built around break-action grenade launchers, but prefers to train with nunchaku.
Maple Oolong - The youngest of the Oolong sisters, Maple has come into her own a lot sooner than her older siblings. As small as she is, and always filthy and looking for a fight, much of Watchtower village thought she was Taro’s first son for a few years and rightfully so. She wears her hair short and looks to have inherited her father’s rugged good looks and masculine build. She likes to fight with the village boys and harass the local livestock, and is especially close to her eldest sister Matcha. Though young she has already begun training and uses a pair of tonfa with built-in revolvers like her mom’s, though unlike her siblings her favorite style of fighting is gunplay.

Weapon
Matcha’s weapon is a cross between a pair of tonfa and a pair of shotguns. Primarily painted green, they are marked with small white and black details. She loads them with a variety of dust shells, which can also be consumed to charge the striking surface with elemental effects. They’re based on her mother’s own weapons and were made by the same Mistrali weaponsmith, who also made similar weapons for her siblings.
Gemini Cross
PACT (Pump-Action Combat Tonfa)
A pair of wooden tonfa, with perforated metal heat shields running the length of the longest side in the fashion of an old-fashioned trench shotgun. This form is primarily for melee combat, but the shotgun section can be fired and cycled in pump-action to enhance strikes. The trigger is mounted on the side handle which protrudes from the shotgun receiver.
For increased range the shotgun functions of the Gemini Cross convert from pump-action to lever-action.
To engage groups of enemies the magazine tubes of the Gemini Cross unfold and each weapon is connected end-to-end to create a full-length bo staff, though the protruding side-handles work as hooks and striking points in this form.
Close combat tank with a focus on a steadfast defense and crippling counters.
Gemini Cross uses dust ammunition in the form of shotshell cartridges, which Matcha keeps in healthy supply. Her semblance has a limited interaction with dust in that it delays the effect of activated dust on an affected target until her semblance deactivates, causing the cumulative effects of the dust to occur all at once. Additionally Matcha has trained in styles to use raw dust in her martial arts, though her experience with these techniques is limited and dangerous given her unimpressive reserve of aura. She once showed innate talent for this art with burn dust, but after her injuries has shied away from its use almost entirely.
Semblance
Kinetikinesis
Kinetic Energy Stasis - Matcha’s semblance allows her to compel anything to temporarily freeze in place relative to everything around it, provided that it is within eyesight. An object frozen in place by her semblance cannot be moved by any other means but her semblance, even if frozen in mid-air and will not respond to any stimulus until the effect is expired, after approximately ten seconds, at which point it will react to the cumulative effects of all stimulus experienced while affected by stasis at once.
Kinetic Energy Charge - While an object is under Matcha’s stasis effect it will compile the effects of any stimulus applied to it and delay them until her semblance expires. Matcha primarily uses this effect on her own weapons-the Gemini Cross-to block and store up the blows of an opponent and then return that energy with her own as a devastating counterattack, but the same principle works on other objects to create and exploit weak points or turn lighter objects into high-speed projectiles by charging them up with strikes towards the direction she wishes to launch them. This aspect of her semblance also allows the immediate effects of a smaller amount of dust to be magnified on an object.
Kinetic Energy Overcharge - When an object under stasis collects too much energy, or balances energy from opposing directions it will simply respond by exploding when the effect wears off. It’s not an immediately useful quirk of her semblance, but Matcha thinks it’s really cool.
Transmutor - Change an aspect of yourself or an object, outside the parameters of a Boost Semblance. Think Levitation or Cinder being able to superheat and control objections.
Targets effects by her Kinetikinesis ability glow a faint green which brightens with intensity as they collect energy. If dust is applied to the target under stasis the dust will form in deposits on the surface until the effect expires and the dust discharges.
Light Green
Short
In addition to the requirement for a target to be within her eyesight, Matcha’s Kinetikinesis does not work on anything with a soul-such as Humans and Faunus, or the aura-imbued weapon of another Huntsman. If another object is under the direct influence of someone’s semblance, she cannot affect it, though the reverse is generally true as well.
The target or targets of her semblance must also be within a “short” range, though the exact quantified range has expanded with her experience as a trainee huntress and is complicated by the speed, complexity, and size of a target as well as the number of potential targets. Complicated machinery is difficult for her to exert her semblance upon, whether by attempting to seize the entire machine, or only specific par
