Overview
Flame Sac-itis (placeholder)
Inflammation of a dragon's flame sac
Disease
Ignitus
Causes
Having a weakened immune system allows the virus to spread faster.
Not treating the symptoms quickly enough or coming into contact with those who are infected.
Airborne, waterborne, just don't touch anything that was touched by an infected person.
The disease starts as a typical sinus infection, but it can spread further into the respiratory system if symptoms aren't treated. The infection itself causes inflammation in a dragon's flame sac, sealing it shut and preventing the use of a breath weapon. IF the infection isn't treated, the magnesium within the flame sac will build up and the sac will swell.
Effects
A glowing orange spot with begin to appear on the dragon's chest near their lungs and heart. As the infection progresses, the spot with start as a dull red and soon grow to a very bright orange.
Shortness of breath, mild chest pain, inability to use breath weapon, glowing spot on chest near heart and lungs.
Lasts about a week with proper medical attention, but the disease can take its toll in about a week and a half.
Not deadly with proper treatment, but the flame sac can rupture and cause major damage if left untreated. It's very rare that any dragon survives past that point.
Can affect dragons with other breath weapons, but it's only deadly with dragons that have a flaming breath weapon.
Treatment
Treat the cold or other infection before it spreads to the flame sac.
It only becomes apparent when the dragon's chest starts to glow.
Anti-inflammatory medication and lots of fire-breathing to make sure that too much doesn't build up.
Ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen sodium.
Analysis
Disease
Common in poorer areas where medical treatment is scarce but rare in large cities.
History
Has become more medicine-resistant over many years, infection spreads a few days faster than when it was first discovered.
