Overview
Common Vyvern
Smaller cousin of Dragons
Avian
Looks
Common Vyverns have natural, bland colours, raging from sandy to olive green. Their eyes are bright orange. Some of them have interesting, darker or lighter patterns across their body.
Just like rest of vyverns, their height, while sitting down with straightened neck, range from 50cm to 86cm.
3kg- 4,3kg.
Big eyes with cat-like pupils.
Scales
Traits
Common Vyvern use few distinctive hunting techniques, each one corresponding to the size and speed of its prey. When attacking slow-flying birds, for instance, vyvern soars upward and then rapidly descends, literally knocking the birds out of the sky. If it’s stalking large animals, such as deer, it flies low to the ground, waiting for the right moment to strike with a sustained grip of its talons. When they are not hunting individually, but in herd, they circle their prey, attacking one after another, to overwhelm their prey and inflict enough injuries to take it down.
Depending on the threat, they can punch with with their wings, bite, scratch, or jump on the attacker and do it all at once.
Sharp teeth and claws; ability to fly
Are resilient to high temperatures and fire.
They cannot run. Unable to fly, vyverns become very vulnerable for faster and/or bigger creatures then themselves.
They can't swim.
They use few types of sounds, most common are: roaring, hissing and clattering.
Scales, teeth, and organs- some people believe, that blood, heart, and tongue of vyverns have similar healing powers as those belonging to Dragons.
Although they are related to dragons, vyverns are not considered to be smart creatures. Some of their mannerisms and reactions made people believe, that they have the same level of inteligence as birds.
Habitat
They ypically prey upon small- and medium-sized animals, such as geese, rabbits, civets and reptiles. But its occasional attacks, especially when hunting in herd, can focus on bigger animals—lambs, deer, even small small horses.
