Behavior

Whats Their Personality Like?

The Eastern Fishing Dog (EFD) is a fairly docile breed that prefers sleeping on a heated blanket to running through muddy fields. They are comically lazy dogs, despite this they are dedicated to they're job and loves playing in water. Some EFDs do nit take interest in fishing, which would lead them to being put down, but these days uninterested dogs become household pets

Whats Their Behavior Like?

EFD are known to be aggressive toward aquatic animals (Fish, Axolotls, etc.) but remain nonchalant when it comes to land mammals. They are generally friendly dogs that love to cuddle. They have a tendency to chew on things, and they're large teeth and strong jaws can damage most furniture.

How Easy Is It To Train Them?

They are natural hunters and learn fairly quickly, however may become bored with mundane tricks such as "lie down". Some EFDs may be disobedient and unwilling to participate in hunting, which led to they're integration as household pets. These types of EFD are known to be notoriously stubborn.

What Are Their Grooming Needs?

They have a heavy undercoat and shed in the summer months. They're hair falls out in clumps and sticks to furniture and fabrics. They have a tendency to rub against furniture to discard of loose hair. Daily brushing is needed, as well as deshedding when possible

What Is Their Health Like?

They're large jaws can lead to Craniomandibular osteopathy, which is the growth of excessive bone in the jaw. They often die of water inhalation or drowning due to diving for fish. They're eyes are also prone to infections, being exposed to ocean and river water often. They also may suffer from Diabetes mellitus, Copper toxicosis and other diseases

Are They Good For People With Allergies?

The International Kennel Club listed EFDs among it's breeds not recommended for allergy sufferers.

What Are They're Instincts?

They are fairly calm towards children and over small land animals. They are not overly maternal when it comes to they're young, they keep them alive but do not take time to teach them, often leaving that to the human owner. Working EFDs have a high abandonment rate as well, often finding themselves to invested in they're work.
