Species of medium sized ground spider found in the Southern Reaches. Frequent predator of pest animals in the bronze age cities.

The black brush spider originally lived in the forests of the Southern Reaches, preferring a a sheltered environment, not liking the open spaces of the grasslands.

It's lack of fear of commotion and much larger animals caused them to quickly move into the human cities. There they began assumed an unexpected but important role of eating pest animals, both mammals and insects, that would threaten food stores.

Because of this behavior and lack of aggression towards humans they normally left alone and thought of as good luck. Though they're preference for enclosed spaces means they are often found in shoes and cabinets.

While they are normally solitary hunters, the black brush spiders of Brass Beak have recently been observed engaging cooperative hunting to being down larger prey.

A group of black brush spiders were also released in the Green Cathedral. Since they will not venture out into the open grasslands and the nearest forests are hundreds of miles away the population is completely isolated.

They weave small webs across small spaces to catch animals walking through. When an animals becomes entangled in the web, the spider which is waiting nearby, delivers a venomous bite.
