Overview
Archound
Mouth is akin to an incredibly sharp hook-shaped beak. Back of the skull continues into a ceratopsid frill shaped like a shield, dotted with ten bony spikes on its surface; eight are short and arranged in two columns of four, while the other two are larger and between them, near the top. Has a relatively short nasal horn. Eyes are positioned near the sides of the head, with a third eye on its forehead; all three usually appear as one solid color. Inside the mouth is a trio of tongue-like tentacles.
Body is sturdy and muscular, with a hide covered in thick scales, and its spine dotted with scutes. Forelegs are somewhat longer than the hind leg, sporting a pair of rear-facing spikes on each shoulder, and terminating in short hands with three clawed digits. Only the second and third digits of each foreleg are used to support weight; the first has an unusually large, curved, falciform (sickle-shaped) claw, held off the ground while walking. Hind legs are bulkier, and have larger feet with four hooves each. Tail is long and powerful, with three pairs of lengthy spikes near the middle of its length, and two more near the tip.
Endothermic, reptilian.
Looks
Brown and yellow, eyes are red or green.
Quadruped, ceratopsid dinosaur
Height: 2.6 meters (8.53ft)
Length: 5.5 meters (18ft)
Weight: 3.11 metric tons
Beak-like mouth. Nasal horn. Frill with horn-like spines. Three eyes. Sickle claws on forelimbs.
Scales, hard-flesh underside.
Traits
Territorial, may attack intruders on sight.
Ramming, tail swipes, and enlarged claw on forelimbs. Mouth houses a trio of prehensile, stretchable tongue-like organs capable of constriction. Mouth also contains specialized glands that release mildly acidic venom when pressured by muscles.
Thick scales cover hide and majority of body. Reinforced skull and frill support battering ram strategies, frill protects neck. Face and intestines are coated in bacteria that enable consumption of rotting meat.
51.5 km/h (32 mph)
Great physical strength: Capable of flipping objects weighing ~2000lbs. with its head, and restraining moving vehicles with its tongues. Tail can shatter bone and snap telephone poles. Endurance: Capable of running for 8 miles without exhaustion. Durability: Impervious to small arms fire, resistant to small explosives. Eyes on sides of head increase field of vision, eye on cranium provides better forward vision. Sense of smell approximately 38 times greater than a human's. Tongues are flexible, prehensile, and incredibly durable. Acidic venom spray up to 20m (65.61ft). Falciform claw on forelimbs, used to cut and pin prey.
Blind behind frill. Depends on central eye for depth perception. Tongues can be damaged.
Crocodile-like growling, roaring and hissing. Primitive vocalization to alert others, similar to a "whoop."
Habitat
Temperate, but can survive in colder climates, and thrives in warmer.
Primarily feeds on low-level plantlife, but will consume carrion instead if scarce. Venom notably becomes more potent by eating carrion.
Oviparous (egg-laying).
Comparisons
Ceratopsid dinosaurs, komodo dragon.
Notes
If raised from an early age and properly cared for, they can be surprisingly loyal. Sometimes used as oversized guard dogs.
Reproduction
Oviparous (egg-laying).
