Overview
Yerjoba Yam
A dark violet, edible, starchy tuber commonly grown by Voidspawn.
- Sunset Sweet Potato
- Lavender Yam
- Ouana's Breast
Classification
Convolvulaceae
Appearance
Starting dark green and fading to deep red along the base, Yerjoba Yams sprout vibrant white flowers that produce an earthy, yet sweet smell.
The root and main plant itself has light purple-gray flesh while the meat of the root is a deep purple with a milk-like juice.
On average, most Yerjoba Yams get to be somewhat larger than the common eggplant in comparison.
The flowers of the yam smell earthy and sweet, though the root itself can have a much stronger scent.
The flowers and stems are unable to be eaten (due to toxicity), but the yam is known to be starchy, thick, and filling in it's own way. Given the versatility and hardy nature of the plant, Yerjoba Yams tend to have a somewhat off taste of occasionally being bland, but the hunting aftertaste of watery crispness when eaten raw.
Ecosystem
Generally, Yerjoba Yams are pollinated via insects and small mammals that are drawn by the sweet smelling aroma of their floral plants, though often their seeds are spread via the dung of burrowing creatures that feed on the lesser roots, stems, and flowers of the plant itself.
Yerjoba Yams often thrive in loose, mild soil upon plains, grasslands, and fields of Fothlaiwei. Given that they are a crop and yield through mass production, the yams are often planted during the start of the dry seasons and harvested two weeks into the monsoon seasons to ensure they don't rot.
