Overview
Arandar
Country
A human-populated nation with most of its culture centered on the lush southern-most coast of the Floral Bay. Many of its people are sailors, traders, or soldiers. It is the most successful of traders who earn the title "lord", but everyone falls under the rule of the Sultan and his council of advisors.
Beyond the coast, the countryside is dry prarie and desert. Few places are suitable for farming crops, but nomadic groups of sheperds, both human and Chimeran, thrive in the desert. The desert is commly regarded as a dangerous, lawless place. There are just as many criminal nomads as are there are peaceful, law-abiding citizens.
Culture
Bartering is extremely common here, but a variety of valuable metal-tiered coins are accepted as currencies.
Hunting, fishing, martial combat performance arts, and gambling (enjoyed by the lower class and at least publically despised by nobility) are all popular sports in Arandar.
Some important notes on the law:
-Slavery is perfectly acceptable and Arandar engages in a slave trade with Ter Felix.
-Theft, of slaves or of any other item, is very illegal and severely punished.
-So is lying, cheating, and doing anything that annoys the Sultan or members of his council
Most of the country's population lies by the coast, with scattered groups of nomads farther away.
Arandarian, and dozens of unofficial tribal or Chimeran dialects/languages scattered throughout the central plains.
Cities
Geography
The Southernmost country in Haverunt, its lowest border brushing against the untamed wilderness beyond.
Warm, but comfortably so only along the coast. The plains and deserts of Arandar are dry and dangerously hot.
Crops grown in Arandar include grains and rice. Their farmlard is greatly limited by the availability of usable water. For many years, agriculture was limited to the handful of minor rivers and oasis scattered throughout the countryside, but recent advancements in aquamancy have led to successful separation of salt from water, allowing for new farms along the coast.
History
The complete story of Arandar's foundation lay scattered in long-forgotten texts and legends kept only to oral tradition. All that is known as truth is that the land was populated by constantly warring tribes of humans and felixians alike until the humans banded together to drive the Felixian tribes away. After they were gone, the newly united human tribes agreed to become one. The leaders eventually selected a sultan from among them. The crowning of a sole leader is often considered the birth of Arandar people now know it. The sultan does not leave a natural heir, but rather, he has a council from which he selects a new sultan before he dies.
Unkown, but Arandar is widely regarded as the oldest established country.
The origin of the country involves the people uniting against the Felixians (who were their enemies in very early history). See more details in their foundation story.
Called to war in 1045 when the Felixians (by this time, allies and close trading partners) asked for their aid in defense against invaders from Tray. Their involvement brought a swift end to the war and the Felixians kept all of their land.
