Merbeasts communicate with noises that sound a lot like singing.
The only known sentient beings in the Cryptic Swamp are the merbeasts, of which there are estimated to be several hundred.

Geography
Cryptic Swamp is a relatively small swampland surrounded by ocean.
This location is an alternate dimension disconnected from all else. Very few know how to reach it.
The climate is very humid.
History
A minority of Bizarians are born with the ability to create their own alternate life-sustaining dimension. One Bizarian named Marghianus was born with this ability and created the swamp. He populated it with the Merbeasts, who he created in his likeness, and other plants and animals to form an ecosystem for them to live in.
Merbeasts are constantly fighting with the monsters that lurk in the swamp.
