Overview
Democratic Republic of Saxophone
"Democratic" Dictatorship
Where traitors go to die
Culture
The official Saxophone currency is the printed banknote, established during the reign of High King Blake Goyette. The original banknote became violently inflated and crashed the economy due to overprinting. Prices and wages within the DRS are now tightly controlled to protect against market unpredictability.
"Blood for blood"
It is forbidden to display tendencies against the state, especially against the president. To be a good citizen is to be loyal and obedient, even if that means turning in friends and family for treachery.
There is universal suffrage, a value which the leaders enjoy constantly bragging about, but it does not apply to traitors and seditionists.
Though most nobles were eliminated in early purges for supporting tyranny, it is ensured that nobody can ever gain that amount of wealth again through a percentage tax. Land is also state-distributed equally. Wages are capped to prevent hoarding of wealth.
It is frowned upon to display traits such as greed, gluttony, hedonism, or selfishness. Nationalism, patriotism, and loyalty to the state is expected at all times. The public school system is sponsored by the state to provide all children an education in exactly these values.
The state provides a deal of money and compensation to the church of Doremi, who in turn declare the President, Noah Bertram, to be sanctioned by and chosen by the gods.
The DRS govt. possesses an excess of weaponry, especially grenades and explosives, which they distribute or sell to other nations. Saxophone citizens' weaponry is also tightly controlled, with citizens having to either obtain a hard-to-acquire licence, or give up their weapons to be seized by the state. The nation is overall run by the National Saxophone Democratic Party, led by the President. Officials are elected every 3 years, and the president is elected every 6 years. Neither has any term limits.
The law enforcement in the DRS is provided by the Saxophone Guard, but more...discreet affairs are taken care of by the Avantguard, who deal with internal security.
Executing dissident traitors
History
After the trial and sudden death of High King Blake Goyette, infighting began within the already unpopular nobles of the High Conclave as they jockeyed for power. Already rising to popularity after uniting the splinters of his own failed revolution, Noah Bertram was welcomed into the capital city of Mauriat with open arms, and with the support of the common people he was able to storm the royal palace.
Soon after the Kingdom of Saxophone was officially abolished and the Democratic Republic of Saxophone established in its place.
