The forest itself was natural, however, when the Vikings began invading Britain, Aldercy Afton and other magical beings fled to the forest. They used enchantments to intensify the magic there and ward off humans. After it was realized that magic was taboo and persecuted outside the forest, they decided to remain forever isolated.
