Points of Interest
The Kkaxe River is prized for the wild canyon tomatoes that grow naturally within the lower, cooler areas towards the canyon's floor. The wild tomato is a delicious treat for the traveler, but even the domesticated varietals - whether served raw (especially in their bite-sized variants), in sauces, or jammed - are welcome additions to local Birdfolk cuisine.
Oxbows West: a tall, sloped kopje accessed by a wide jut of landbridge, Oxbows West is a popular tourist attraction for its accessible views of the beautiful Kkaxe River and surrounding southlands, as well as its historic background as a military base. Used as a Birdfolk outpost during the Beanfolken conflicts, many of the old fortifications remain and are maintained as tourist attractions and lodgings.
Oxbows East: a favorite among advanced climbers (known as Talfolk, or Talons), Oxbows East is a tall butte-like pillar of stone accessed by a narrow stone bridge. Beginner to moderate backpackers can camp at Scoutfire Base at the wider, western side of the landbridge, a historic campground associated with Birdfolk scouts headed upriver, but due to its difficulty and dangerous rockface, access to Oxbows East Proper is restricted to certified Talfolk with the appropriate permits. However, the view - the highest point in The Southlands, and steeped in Birdfolk Special Services lore for its history as Watchtower Major in the Beanfolken conflicts - is undeniably appealing, and many do not consider themselves true Talons until they have ascended Oxbows East.
The Sentinels: A distinctive stop along the Kkaxe, The Sentinels is a massive underground dome whose ceiling has collapsed into the cavern below. The Sentinels is widely beloved as a sacred site (attributed to Coyotl) and tourist attraction, and is a frequent stop for travelers heading northwards along the canyon way.
Outbound Associations
The Satta Kkaxe pattern is most typically seen in Outbound embassies and trade ground pop-ups.
