Aetran
The manipulation of reality through the use of phrases of power.
This is the overarching type of magic. All other types are subtypes of Aetran.
Appearance
The many subtypes of Aetran have many different visuals, all varying by the specific subtype. The only overarching visual is some type of gathering of energy. Be it in the form of a ball of energy in the casters hands, the dimming of all light in the area, the casters eyes glowing as if aflame, or any other visual.
This magic encompasses all possible effects magic can have.

The closest elemnt that Aetran is aligned to is Language.
Requirements
The only real resource needed for the practice of magic is time. Time discovering phrases of power, modifying syntax, testing results.
One cannot practice the art silently, it just isn't possible. One can't even whisper a great number of phrases without altering their effects.
A good memory is essential to the practice of Aetran. The better your memory, the more spells you can memorize. Another useful skill is a fast tongue. Even if you can shorten the length of the phrase needed for the spell, the faster you can say it, the better.
Technically no materials are required, but no professional mage has ever said no to a good library.
