Overview
Caddisian
The Caddisians are a race of extremophile insectoid beings whose technological prowess is largely unmatched.
Looks
Beyond their insectoid appearance, the notable unique features of the Caddisians include their auxiliary arms at their waists and their bristly wings that are kept folded on their backs. Their ability to freely fly with these wings varies per individual, but the additional lift provided by them allows them to be exceedingly nimble.
The average Caddisian is around 5'7" to 6'0" when fully grown.
By virtue of their biological composition, Caddisians are generally very light, weighing anywhere in the range of 50 to 75 lbs.
Outside of color and height, there is considerably less physical variance among Caddisians when compared with other races.
Caddisians often choose to wear clothing for individual expression and some protection of their bodies, though they are resilient. Upper-body wear is much more common than lower body wear on account of their physiology, and they tend to wear sleek and utilitarian garments made of advanced materials.
Caddisians are generally long and tall, pinched at their waists and joints, with spindly limbs and digits.
Caddisian exoskeletons are varied in color even across the bodies of individuals, but tend to occur in shades of grey, black, white, silver, brown, or gold.
Traits
Like any insect of any size, Caddisians are particularly vulnerable to high pressure—the most reliable way to do in a Caddisian is to crush it.
In addition to this, due to their low-density biology and resultant low weight, they are very easily thrown about by relatively low force, and are quite handily picked up or tossed around by other beings.
Caddisians are hardy creatures, capable of comfortably existing in environments harsh or deadly to many other races. Due to being anaerobic in nature they are not adverse to low- or zero-oxygen environments. They tolerate extreme temperatures well, and due to this they can survive even the vacuum of outer space without suffering. Even excessive heat does not typically permanently damage them, at least to a point.
In addition to these physical strengths, the Caddisians are known far and wide for their intellectual capacity, most famously their understanding and development of nanotechnology—Caddisian nanotech is widely (if often begrudgingly) acknowledged to be wildly superior to that offered by other outfits.
Culture
Caddisians most prominently utilize the galaxy's most advanced nanotechnology. Frequently this is put to its best pragmatic uses and situates the Caddisians comfortably among the galaxy's overall economy, but in recent cycles the Caddisians have been testing a new application of this technology that is much more sinister...
Because their nanotechnology is so refined, the Caddisians do very well for themselves as a whole by saturating the galaxy with it. This success withstands even several major powers rejecting Caddisian tech due to its occasional use for espionage and sabotage, as well as its ability to be remotely controlled by the Caddisians as they see fit. Although clandestine, rumors of the Caddisians latest ventures have done little to strengthen their image among more discerning societies.
Generally, Caddisians take on one of only a handful of roles. Many of them take part in the upkeep, operation, and protection of their aquatic hiveworlds, the largest of which is on their remote home planet of Caddisia.
Many others leave the hiveworlds to serve as what are known as Proliferators, whose duty is to ensure that the galaxy be saturated with Caddisian nanotech. Typically this has been an economic and business-forward role, but lately the Proliferators have begun abducting creatures and beings indiscriminately to subject them to tests with a new variety of nanotechnology intended to spark enhanced combatants for use in conquering worlds.
