Overview
Demons
The embodiment of the negative fundamentals of the universe. Demons are the sentient quotas of the positive energy split from the proto-universe during the Act of Creation.
Looks
Demons prefer forms which embody chaos, and will present themselves as distortions of light and energy; as wild arcs of current or flame, or as harsh and abrasive sounds formed of disharmonic waveforms.
When entering the physical realm demons favour forms which are distressing to mortals, these may be geometrical impossibilities, or the mortal forms of deceased loved ones. Many like to assume monstrous forms composed of numerous predatory features.
Culture
Demons promote decay, and will feed off the universe at large, bolstering themselves at the expense of the Mortal Plane. Wherever possible Demons act as parasites, drawing life and vigour from the cosmos.
Demons are arranged into dominions, which are simply gangs of demons unified under the tyranny of a more powerful Demon. Demons will frequently attempt to conquer and assimilate rival dominions, putting them in a constant state of low-level civil war.
Due to this no Greater Demon has ever amassed the required strength to become a God; if ever one gets close the other Greater Demons unite and use their combined dominions to forcibly rob the would-be God of their power.
Demonkind at large is ruled by a President. Powerful Greater Demons call the weaker Greater Demons of their dominion to their side to act as Whips, Whips then proceed to enter the populace and use violence, blackmail, and subterfuge to guarantee votes for their patron in exchange for power. The Demon who has successfully bullied or schemed their way to the most votes is named President.
Demons thrive on a diverse technology. They consider themselves masters of universal manipulation, and employ a variety of quantum technologies to attempt to influence the universe at large. Almost all demonic technology has evolved to the point of being a self-sustaining organic matrix, fuelled by demonic energy. The organic matrix is capable of evolving and mutating itself into a variety of different forms and functions.
History
The Act of Creation split the proto-universe into a Positive Force, a Negative Force, and a Void between them.
Fundamentally at odds with one another, and wishing to claim the void for their own, the Positive Force and Negative Force each embodied themselves as an entire dimension, an immense God the likes of which have never been seen since.
The exactly equal gods clashed, each sundering the other.
The millions of demons which instantly formed from the Negative Force set upon each other instantly, devouring and sundering one another in cycles of assimilation and fragmentation. Eventually the first Greater Demons formed, and were not instantly destroyed, and so began to form the first of their dominions. They soon noticed the presence of the Angels in the Mortal Plane, and moved to attack them, their instinctive hatred for the Positive Force far greater than their immediate desire for violence.
Eventually, once mortal life had formed, the Demons realised that their corrupted souls would become attracted to the Negative Force, and through the mortals the Demons had the opportunity to become a greater power than the Angels. They worked to corrupt as many mortals as possible, and frequently hunted the Angels who worked to the opposite end. Eventually these conflicts threatened to destroy the Mortal Plane entirely, and so the most intelligent of the Greater Demons allied and rallied the rest of their race, and consented to the Apocalypse Accords, wherein they consented to the arrangement that one millennia hence each side would wage a final war via proxy, and the defeated side would forever withdraw from the Mortal Plane.
The Demons opted for direct action, and so a tax was instigated, a Demon was imbued with a significant amount of power, and sent to the Mortal Plane to act as Herald of the Apocalypse. The Herald prepared himself to face the Mortal Champion, who apparently never appeared. Having won by defeat the Herald travelled north, laying waste to the Mortal Realm as he did, until he eventually collapsed the fabric of spacetime at the pole of the planet Ome, opening a permanent passage to Hell.
The Dominions of Hell wasted no time, and soon subjugated the entire human population, destroyed any traces of their civilisation, and set their new slaves to work constructing two cities, each of which almost totally dominated the northern and southern hemispheres of Ome, leaving a narrow strip around the equator undeveloped.
Once the mortal plane was under their control the Demons rallied their forces into a unified army for the second time since the Apocalypse, and forced their way through the dimensional boundaries and into Heaven. There they slaughtered the Angelic Hosts, and enslaved those few who were not destroyed or failed to escape into the vast emptiness of space.
The Demonic President now sits in the new capital of Supurbia One, where they and their Greater Demonic ministers issue commands to their enslaved Angels and mortal vassals to rule the mortal populace who suffer eternally, in life and death alike.
