Overview
Warborn
Forged in strife, borne of battle, the Warborn trace their ancestry back to the conquerors of Ys, who warred the mighty Kalaalit Empire to a standstill with a fraction of the warriors. Now they live in fractious clans on their home continent, their warrior culture muddled in petty feuds. On Jotun, a group of exiles founded a civilization of their own, and called themselves Utlaegr.
Northmen
Looks
Their ears are slightly pointed and they possess sharp canines. Their skin varies between dark brown and light pink. Beards are common amongst the males in colder climates, as is long hair. Polymorphism is a distinct characteristic of the Warborn, though sexual dimorphism follows bipedal norms. They have two castes, the Prime and the Median. The former is larger and stronger, with thicker skin, a faster metabolism, and a superior mating of their symbiote, the Warshade.
Accustomed to a colder climate in Jotun, they'll wear warm clothing that leaves very little uncovered. Usually many layers of material for both genders, and colours and styles are dependent upon the region. In Ys, where the climates are warmer, clothes are more decorative than functional.
Between members of the same caste, males are on average slightly larger, though the variance is lesser in warmer climates, and they tend to be shorter in general.
Northerners are often portrayed as thickly built and tall, while southerners tend towards leaner and shorter builds. Primes of both regions are much taller and have a strongly defined musculature, as well as a visibly larger bone structure.
Dark brown to pale pink, usually according to region.
Around 6 ft is the norm for both genders in Jotun, with females trending slightly under the mark. In Ys, the tendency is half a foot shorter, but much more variance is present.
The average weight is between 75 and 100 kg for the Median caste, with Primes reaching on average weights of 200 kg.
Traits
The Warshade is a symbiotic entity, a genetic passenger of a divine nature melded to the Warborn psyche. While it allows for a substantial amplification of their natural abilities, those who drink too deeply or too often from its well lose themselves to the entity. They are known as the Warblind or the Feral, and the only known remedy is just as likely to kill them as to help.
The blood of the Warborn is also highly sensitive to silver, and any significant amount of the metal in their blood will cause it to react violently, boiling and scorching the flesh. Weapons coated in silver are often met with immediate hostility.
