Everything in this world has a spirit, which carries on after death. There are helpful spirits and harmful spirits. Most harmful spirits are from the disrespected dead, but there are also natural troublemakers that harm for amusement.

There are a handful of 'Great Spirits', which have dominion over the world and its functions. However, no great spirit has greater power over another, and this keeps a delicate balance among them.

The great spirits mainly give premonitions that predict events in the near future. These visions are gifted to shamans who enter a trance to communicate with the heavens.

Prayers to the Great Spirits, warding off trickster spirits, or summoning helpful spirits are all done by the local shaman. He or she utilises music and chanting to communicate with the surrounding spirits, often with the help of their tribe.

Dances around fires are a widespread ritual among the followers of Tagiuk. Fire is one of, if not the most important gift from the great spirits, and the Riogna offer their gratitude through dance and music.
