Boarhelm is home to the Winter Palace as well as the estates of the more powerful Winter families. The most successful magite mine in Winter sits just beyond its borders, and the royal training grounds have a sperate building outside the palace.
A statue of Damion the Conqueror, otherwise known as Damion Palks, stands at the center of the training grounds' courtyard. He is depicted standing triumphantly over the head of a massive boar.
The streets closest to the castle are filled with family estates: the homes of the oldest and wealthiest Winter families.
Culture
Boarhelm is the center of Winter politics, being home to the royal palace, the entire Winter army, and the Winter nobility.
History
Boarhelm was founded by Damion Palks a short while after the banishment of the gods. It is said that Damion was leading his clan through the wilds of Winter in an attempt to find a steady home for the people of Winter. Eventually, they found the perfect place to build their city. The slopes of the Kesper Mountains lead them to a spot just beside Spirit Lake. It was easy to defend with access to fresh water; it couldn't have been more perfect. But as they descended into the valley, they discovered why no one had settled here yet. A massive boar had been terrorizing the countryside and eventually decided to make that valley its home. It attacked the clan's encampment, killing several of Damion's men. Furious at the killing of his clanmates and determined to claim the valley, Damion tracked the beast himself on foot for days. Upon reaching its den, he cut its head clean off its shoulder. After that, peace was restored and the valley became a home for the people of Winter. This founding story is so popular among the Winter folk that it has influenced many aspects of their society. The city was named Boarhelm after that story and a statue was erected in the training city as a testament to it. The official crest of the Winter royal family, Damion's decedents, depicts the head of a boar mounted on a spear. Finally, a festival is held every year in Boarhelm as a tribute to Damion and the royal family. High born men and women from all over the domain come to participate in a hunt known as The Great Boar Hunt.
