History
Thousands and thousands of years ago, when King Arthur was just Prince Arthur, magic was vibrant and everywhere. The world itself was trying to figure out how magic and non-magic would work together since both seemed very vast and like the culture wouldn't mesh. In an effort to foster good feelings, Prince Arthur was slated to marry the Druids highest, most powerful witch - someone called Emrys. Unfortunately when the Druids came to Camelot, Emrys turned out to be a man who preferred to be called Merlin, who wasn't even at his position of power yet because he was still young. So they decided to continue fostering good will and Merlin and Arthur became fast friends.
Over the years, they grew closer and closer, battling evil magic and evil creatures and evil humans, and trying to get the world to settle. Unfortunately, the magic of the world began to fade - creatures were becoming less common, magic was less strong, the world was going in favor of the humans. During Merlin's final battle, he realized if he didn't do something, magic would be lost forever, so he sacrificed himself, putting himself into the earth and spreading his magic across the land so that it could thrive. Magic was saved, magic was able to continue growing and expanding with humanity. But Arthur, now a king, was horribly bitter over the loss of his close friend, who he never got to confess his love to like Merlin did to him. He became angry because the magic wasn't going to completely die in their life time, magic would have been around for awhile longer, and instead Merlin had to die for it. He lead a campaign against magic and it's users, going against the Druids he had once called friends. He died at the hands of Mordred, Merlin's apprentice and Arthur's former friend. Despite Arthur's efforts, magic remained in the world, though the issues he had with it spread over various communities over the years.
