History
Many years ago, to species met in the darkness of space. They combined their technology to create a world together. One stayed, and one left. This is the story of their descendants.
Rules
The center of the planet contains the raw energy and matter called The Seed that was used to make it in the first place. There are several ways of accessing this energy. Korianans use their language, which is derived from the voice commands used by the original korianans to interface with the technology they used to build the planet. They use the language to cast, and are restricted to a "well" of energy (IE, how much energy from the seed they can hold in their bodies at once.), which replenishes when they have sex. Only during sex are they in the right mindset to connect with the seed without aid. They can cast SOME magic without the language, but are severely restricted, and the knowledge of it wans and waxes over time.
Humans use a complicated set of words, a different language than the korianans, and gestures to use the energy. If the korianans were the intended users of the technology, the humans, elves, and dwarves hacked it and stole the energy. This "hacking" takes effort, and so their spell casting is restricted to their physical energy. When they're tired, they can't cast well. The words and gestures and rituals are unimportant, and so some cast with religion and some cast with sorcery. The spells themselves are divided into school based on the belief system of the person casting and the effects of the spell. The more in tune someone is with the seed, the easier it is for them to cast, and the less they have to rest before casting again.
When the pieces of seed were stolen to create the anilumietra and the lumietra the seed lost the ability to self replenish. Only through joining the two souls can the seed replenish. It takes a very, very long time for the energy to be depleted. However, because the korianan need the energy from the seed to survive and the humans don't, the korianan become weaker as the seed depletes.
It depends on which time period is being discussed. During Danae's time it's medieval. Sariah's time sees technology as a replacement for magic, and they are extremely technologically advanced. By Haley's time an unbalancing due to the lack of anilumietra has allowed their society to revert and fall, and they live at a level that's not much beyond real-life present day. There is much less magic in both Sariah and Haley's times.
Earth like, excepting the magic.
