Laws of Physics

While the laws of physics are the same as in our universe, there do exist several things that seem to either break or bend them.

One such thing is the Eldari's ability to 'warp' from one place to the next as long as they can either see their desired destination via direct eyesight or have been in the destination before (for example: they can warp from the street to their bathroom, but unless they've been inside the Royal Palace before, they could not warp there). This ability is not very understood by the Eldari, nor is the black stone that is able to block or limit their ability to warp.

Another rule breaking element is their FTL called Slip. Harnessing dark energy radiated from stars and black holes, starships are able to travel from one location to another at many times faster than light. On caveat to this is that most travel is required to be plotted along a course which will most effectively be able to collect said dark energy.

Magic System

While magic exists, it is not understood very well. Some races have innate abilities that (to them) isn't magic (see the Eldari's ability to warp), but to other races is magic. Nearly all species in the Imperium Eddaria universe have the chance to exhibit things such as telepathy, generalized ESP, or elemental manipulation (though in most species with these abilities said abilities are either so ingrained into their cultures that it is not seen as special, or users are so rare as to make these abilities seem purely mythical).

For this, we will focus on Earth and its inhabitants. Earth is home to two different types of beings: Demons and humans.

Demons have (for the most part) an innate aptitude for what they call magic, being able to create illusions, perform transfiguration, or even summoning of some kind*.

Humans, however, by and large do not have an aptitude for magic -or at least what they see as magic. In the fairly small subset of humanity with an aptitude for magic, the users invariably have at least a distant blood tie to the Demon race. Due in large part to the dominant religions of Earth, the magic community tends to hide itself in order to prevent more witch hunts.

There are only a few constants to magic.
With the exception of the Eldari's reincarnation cycle, reviving a dead person is impossible.
On Earth: while not impossible, creating wealth from nothing is seen as taboo, as doing so upsets the wish of magic users to be unseen.
Transmutation of a person is possible, yet the toll of such an act is so high that it is never performed.
While it is called necromancy, what is done on earth by only the most deranged magic user is little more than advanced electrical magic directed towards moving a corpse. True necromancy is seen as impossible due to the loss of the body's soul.
It is the lack of a soul that also makes creating life from nothing impossible as well, as anything created from magic without a soul will inevitably fail immediately upon creation.

Among some 'heretical' minds, all forms of magic and unique abilities are simply the modern manifestation of ancient genetic experiments performed by an even more ancient (and quite likely now extinct) race. But as the Eldari are currently the oldest race known to exist, such a hypothesis is not seen as likely in the slightest

*summoning is in fact an inaccurate name for what the Eldari call Pocket Dimension Recall, an ancient and largely ignored Eldari science which was used to tie small to medium-sized dimensions to a set of coordinates (or item), to be released by the use of a 'key' (either a word, phrase, object, or action). Lesser races see this as magic, though the Eldari acknowledge it as a science they have long since abandoned.
