Former Europe/ Eurasian continent has been re-shaped by wars and climate change, people have formed a relatively free society based around sustainability and a dignified living for everyone.

Former Europe has been re-shaped by wars and climate change. Territories have been altered and annexed so many times that borders have become dispensable. People live in self-sustaining regions, governed by interconnected local governments. There is no high tech anymore due to lack of resources. Society has made it their goal to let every person live in dignity. People take pride in their accomplishments in re-building the centers of their communities and the fruits of their work. They are highly skilled in reusing, recycling and upcycling.

Has been lost wand was unlocked again in the early 21st century. There are few witches, agicians and wizards left, living hidden away. There are a few gods roaming the earth, mostly minding their own business. But there are creatures to be discovered, whose existence is of magic origin.

Heavy industry and machinery, most fuels are being used in the military and public transport. Architecture is reaching new levels of connection to surrounding flora.

In a time where we see probelms rising that we ignored long enough to declare them dead, I am left to wonder how people will view us in 4-5 generations time. It is not so much the well-known question of "what will your children/ grandchildren say", because a personal approach seems inadequate to yield befitting or satisfying answers. It is the question of how a society can recover from what the worst predictions for us and our future hold in stock for them. I am left to ask the question of how the kindest attempts to include all people into a more caring and open society, which we should always strife for, will look like in the future. Can they survive and will they be a more natural part of human interaction?
When I go through the thought-experiment for a utopian society - kindness survived the wars and changes of the world - I get somewhat bored, because if even after such horrifying events people are, in fact, turning out to be better than expected, only by the force of kindness and letting the guards down, then what is there to strife for in men, other than riches or petty disagreements on personal opinions, that might sound too familiar for people who have ever spent any time on a comment section?
Where there is no conflict or complication, there is no space for a story. And aside from this writer's issue, people will never be entirely good, no matter how big the strife and need for peace might be. So things point rather harshly to a dystopion thought experiment.
However, I cannot part from my wish for a genuinely open society.
And this is why I decided to try to let wholeheartedly good intentions and goals of society play out with flawed people. Under the premiss of at least 50 years of war and weaponised conflicts with repeating annexations, conflict doesn't have to be forced into the story (luckily, for writers). I want to portray a society with good and right intentions, dealing with human flaws and past trauma, with the scraps we left them and the means they gave themselves and all the beautifull and horrifying moments such a situation has to offer.
