A Bootlegging Game
Mystery - Suspense - Thriller - Comedy
Charlotte Gray first hears about the death of a bootlegger from the newspaper writer and honorary town busybody, Clara Frisbe.
Theodore Cass first hears of mysterious deaths of alcoholics from his boss, the chief of detective. The young ambitious amateur is intrigued by all the fatalities ranging from lethal paint bucket blows to the head to being chocked by poison oak.
They meet when Charlotte Gray visits the detective headquarters as she is the protégé of Clara Frisbe. She thinks there is more to the story than just drunken brawls. And Theodore Cass has the urge to agree.
Charlotte Gray will do all she can to help her poor family and alcoholic father. She also wants to spread awareness about the evil and pain of drunkenness but also the danger of banning those kinds of drinks.
Theodore Cass comes from the family that their town is named after. Therefore, it goes without saying that he has loaded pockets. He is doing everything in his power to climb the ranks and become the greatest detective in the town, if not the country. After all his expensive training, why shouldn’t he be the best? But, unfortunately for him, he’s the youngest and newest so he’ll have to prove himself.
As they work together to crack the case of dangerous webs of clouded and awful mysteries, Charlotte Gray realizes that one way to get her writing out into the world and aid her family is by marrying someone with deep, prestigious family ties and deep pockets. Or is that just the excuse she gives herself for flirting with the handsome clue-cracker?
