Person of Power

Genre

Visual novel, dating sim; romance, action, fan fiction.

Description

The answer to Normal Boots' Asagao Academy. A universe where everyone has a chance to be born with superpowers, and Hidden Block is a band of superheroes. The player controls Kai (can choose between female, male, and non-binary portraits and pronouns, but the default is female portraits and pronouns), and can choose to date or become friends with anyone in the Hidden Block Squad.

Rules

Technology

It's basically all modern. However, some inventions have been made to reduce incidents caused by PoPs, such as having PoP children wear wristbands to school that disable their powers, or at least minimize damage.

Laws of Physics

The normal laws of physics here, but every human are much tougher than the fragile human today in order to resist powers. It's also very possible for People of Power to perform feats that one would consider superhuman by today's standards.

Magic System

People with powers are called... People of Power. A child of one PoP and one normal human has a max ~40% chance of having powers as well. If both parents are PoPs, the maximum chance is doubled to ~80%. It's possible for a child of regular people to be born a PoP, and vice versa.
Powers aren't consistent with what makes a "good" or "bad power." If a pyrokinetic father and a mother who can create anything have a child, it's just as likely for the child to have unlimited stamina, just as it is for the child to be able to turn into a cactus, or have no power at all. Good and bad powers are also subjective. For example, Jeff is a Panglot, and can understand any language- this includes animal languages, and he can befriend animals to later assist him. Compare Luke's Siren Song, which can sing any lyric from a song and have it come to life immediately, provided that it's sung with skill and emotion. It's also involuntary and sensitive to stray breaths or notes, so it can be quite inconvenient to activate Siren Song.

Notes

The is no canon route in Person of Power! The default gender of Kai is female with she/her pronouns, but the player can choose to play with male, female, or non-binary portraits and/or pronouns for Kai. The game is meant to be LGBTQ+ inclusive, with same-sex romance options in Ian and Jimmy's routes, and a platonic route for every character for an aromantic experience. If the player chooses they/them pronouns (the actual signifier for a non-binary gender), Kai can choose to flirt with the guy of their choice in the prologue; if they choose to flirt, they start the character's romantic route, and if they choose not to, they start the platonic route. There are plans to write routes based on characters other than Hidden Block Squad characters. Routes for the Normal Boots Squad, Yamato Miyazaki, and Night Huntress are confirmed as platonic routes, and are planned to be future routes added to the game after release with the Hidden Block Squad routes.

Caddy's Romantic Route: Kai reawakens feelings Caddy thought were exclusive to his last girlfriend, Cerys, who died over three years ago. She helps him accept his past and around his house, and hopes to be the mother the Caddick daughters never had.
Caddy's Platonic Route: Caddy requests Kai's help on an investigation on a pyromaniac confirmed to be Cerys' murderer, and they both swear to arrest him and avenge her.
Luke's Romantic Route: Kai and Luke start a relationship early into the route as they patrol Saisho City, but Kai can't help but think that Luke's dream-boy personality comes with a catch, especially with his paranoia and obsession with seeing the future.
Luke's Platonic Route: Luke's rapping career gets serious, and Kai offers to become his manager. They take Japan by storm, and experience all the hidden struggles behind a music career.
Ian's Romantic Route: The Miyazaki Clan rises again under the command of Lumen Kunaoya, Yamato Miyazaki's right-hand man and Kai's father figure. He and Ian pursue the clan's activity, but Kai mentally struggles with taking down his old idol, and Ian's technopathy becomes even more unstable than ever.
Ian's Platonic Route: In an homage to the Televoid series, Ian gets trapped inside a cursed TV after tinkering with it. You play as Ian more than you do as Kai as you try to escape the void with sanity intact. This route is the black horse of the routes, as it's more focused on psychological horror than the domestic life of a hero trying to win another's heart or friendship.
Jeff's Romantic Route: Everything Jeff owns is stolen by the phantom thief Ladrón de Dios. Kai challenges the thief to a game of wits in order to arrest him and get Jeff's things back.
Jeff's Platonic Route: After Jeff's things are stolen, he's particularly upset about losing out on sentimental things more than material. Kai brainstorms how to arrest Ladrón de Dios in the most embarrassing way possible, and both decide to make new memories together.
Wallid's Romantic Route: Kai and Wallid seek out Night Huntress' whereabouts, but his rival, Emi, is on the case as well, and insists on sabotaging them at every turn as Wallid discovers new powers. Emi also thinks they're a couple, which isn't that far off the mark.
Wallid's Platonic Route: The investigation on Night Huntress takes a surprising turn as the Miyazaki Clan is thrown into the fray and Emi is as petty as ever. Kai questions his heritage.
Jimmy's Romantic Route: Kai stays at the base along with Jimmy, the powerless-but-cute team medic. However, the secret comes out along the way; Jimmy is the runaway prince of Realiara, a small European country, and hiding him from Realiara's royal guard proves to be a challenge, but Kai is intent on protecting him from his parents, the royals.
Jimmy's Platonic Route: As Kai and Jimmy conduct surveillance to wipe out the remnants of the Miyazaki Clan, they meet a mind-reading grunt named Asher, who becomes their double agent inside the clan- and Jimmy's crush. Kai plays Cupid for Jimmy and Asher as they all plot to end the Miyazaki Clan once and for all.
